CT-WIC Q&A STATEWIDE MEETING JUNE 17, 2016
General If a participant does not want a copy of the Rights & Responsibilities, do we still need to print it for them? If a participant does not bring their eWIC card to their appointment can we issue benefits if only a photo ID is shown? When an existing participant returns to office after being terminated in SWIS for failure to pick up checks for 2 consecutive months, and they are reinstated in CT-WIC, why do we have to complete all of the screens like we are doing a Recertification?
General When does a 5 year old terminate in CT-WIC? When a child turns 5 years old, will benefits be issued until their birth date or until the end of the month?
Anthropometrics/Bloodwork Can the order of the weight and height be reversed on the grid in the Lab screen to reduce errors? When adding a new infant onto the program you have to enter the birth length and weight in 2 places in the Lab screen, can it auto populate for infants under a certain age (eg <1 month)? We had a situation a situation where someone was coming in for a follow-up bloodwork appt. The computer wouldn t allow us to enter the BW since the child was due for a midcert, but the child wasn t present. How should we have handled that appointment?
Anthropometrics/Bloodwork Can we enter weight & height even if it is done more than 60 days ago? Lab screens need to have a wider variety of metric and English as staff are spending time converting lab data
Risks Will the risk factors that are not currently appearing in CT-WIC be added? There is no distinction between the overweight and obesity risks in children. Prenatal questions only ask about miscarriages and stillbirths, what about neonatal death?
Risks If a child is obese at the previous certification/re- certification, and then at the following recertification the child shows a weight loss, and the BMI is WNL, the Inadequate growth risk factor is assigned by CT- WIC. Why does the child have to be assigned inadequate growth and followed as high risk? (The doctor recommended that the child lose weight since the BMI was very high)
Breastfeeding Why do we have to verify breastfeeding information for all converted participants at the time of Certification? Since the system is prompting us to ask about breastfeeding information for children over the age of 1 during recertification, how should we go about answering the questions when the participant indicates that their child is still breastfeeding past age 1?
Breastfeeding When a mom is exclusively breastfeeding at the infant certification and mom s food package is still PG , so would like to issue BE package, but the Assign BE Pkg is greyed out on the Food Prescription screen. Is there something else that needs to be updated in order to assign the BE package?
Food Packages If the doctor faxes a Rx for a change of formula, can the food package be changed without the participant coming to the office? Why does Soy milk not come up as a listed milk option/alternative in the 1 year old cow s milk packages? Why are we unable to assign 1%/skim milk to child under age 2 years with appropriate medical documentation?
Food Packages Why is formula issued past the infant s 1stbirthday? In SWIS the infant formula/baby food checks ended on the child s birthday. In CT-WIC formula benefits are issued for the entire month.
Other How do we check in CT-WIC to find out if the 10/20 processing standard was met? Is it possible for the Family Benefits List to be in Spanish for Spanish speaking participants? Can a simple rubric be developed for the Void and Reissue benefits process or computer enhancement designed?
Other Why do we have to maintain a daily file and for how long? Why do we have to scan the back side of the old Certification forms when they are available in the chart if necessary and participants will be recertified within the year? Is there a way for the client appointment slot to change from blue to purple (if they were not marked as attended) when they are issued benefits?
