Students from multiple high schools will collaborate with professionals to create short videos showcasing different skilled trades.   1. T H E N W R E C # 2 P R E S E N T S The CTE VIDEO GATEWAY PROJECT

Overview: Students from across the region (2-3 high school students from Penasco, Questa, Escalante, Mesa Vista, and Coronado) will work with True Kids 1 professionals to create a 3-5 min. short video focused on the Skilled Trades. Each video will explore a different trade (welding, construction, plumbing, etc.), feature one tradesperson from the community, and film them on the job site. These videos will then be unveiled for National Skilled Trades Day, on May 4th, at the 'Skilled Trades Career Fair' (this year's host site, Penasco High School).

  3. Outcome: To develop student interest in the Skilled Trades. To showcase local tradespeople and capture their journey of entering a skilled trades career post High School. To help fill a growing void in the local workforce of not having enough tradespeople to meet workforce demand. To learn about digital media and acquire hands-on experience using digital media tools.

The project can take anywhere COS T/ F U N D I N G COS T/ F U N D I N G from 10-15 hours of work (interviewing, filming, $2,500 per video (includes TK1 staff time, TK1 gear maintenance/insurance, student stipend pay) editing, etc.) Teacher/sponsor selected to provide supervision for students engaged in this project will be paid a stipend of up to $500 (amount The NWREC#2 will use Perkins and NextGen Grant funding to cover the $2,500 cost/per district video. Paid to True Kids 1 (TK1) dependent upon hours worked outside of the workday). Teacher sponsor is expected to be present at all times during interaction between Transportation costs associated with this project will need to be covered by the district the students and True Kids 1 staff. *Cost covered by project sponsors and/or NWREC2.
