Objectives: Understand the basic information of the program and the approval process to hold an event Understand the elements of the Shooting Sports Award for BB gun and Archery Understand the Range Supervision and the Safety and Training program Understand How to earn and receive your credentials Understand what other opportunities are available Design and construct a safe BB gun Range to meet BSA National Standards Operate a safe BB gun Range State the training requirements for a BSA BB gun rangemaster Conduct BSA BB gun range master training 2
Introduction Cub Scouts & Webelos Scout resident camping fastest growing outdoor program of BSA Supervised use of BB guns = BSA safety through skill 3 3
Approval BB guns approved ONLY at: Cub Scout/Webelos Day camp Cub Scout/Webelos Resident camp Cub Scout Family Camp Council activities with properly trained supervisors and all standards are enforced. 4
NOT PERMITTED any other type of handgun or firearm Note: The use of pellet air rifles is restricted to Webelos Scouts in a resident camp setting. Reference the BSA National Shooting Sports manual #30931 for more information. 5
BB Gun Rangemaster BB Gun Rangemaster responsible for checking Local Laws Firing BB guns within boundaries of municipality Get information from local police department Local permit may be required 6
BB Gun Supervision BB gun safety and markmanship programs require a currently trained: BSA NCS Shooting Sports Director or NRA Rifle Instructor or BSA BB Gun Rangemaster 7
BB Gun Supervision (cont.) BSA BB Gun Rangemaster must: 1. Be 18 or older and registered with BSA 2. Read & understand requirements for range in Chapter 11 3. Complete the BB Gun Safety and Training Program Conducted by NCS Shooting Sports director or NRA Rifle Instructor 8
Archery Supervision Archery safety and markmanship programs require a currently trained: BSA NCS Shooting Sports Director or USA Archery Level 1 Instructor or BSA Archery Rangemaster 9
Archery Supervision (cont.) BSA Archery Rangemaster must: 1. Be 18 or older and registered with BSA 2. Read & understand requirements for range in Chapter 10 3. Complete the Archery Safety and Training Program Conducted by NCS Shooting Sports director or USA Archery Level 1 Instructor 10

Certificate Local Council Issues a training course pocket card Expiration date no longer than 2 years Keeps training record Training codes: CS31 (Archery) & CS32 (BB gun) 12

Qualified location (no shooting at a pack level) Qualified supervision Choose a discipline then do steps one thru three 15
Earn awards in order Rank-level patch Choose a discipline: BB gun, archery, or slingshot. Complete the Level 1 requirements for that discipline. Discipline device (pin) Complete the Level 2 requirements for the same discipline in which the patch was earned. Additional discipline devices Earn pins for the remaining disciplines by completing the Level 1 and Level 2 requirements in those disciplines. (NOTE: Both Level 1 and Level 2 requirements must be completed for each successive discipline.) 16
