About Research Foundation of CUNY 2 We are a private, not-for-profit educational corporation We support City University of New York (CUNY) faculty and staff in identifying and obtaining external support (pre-award) from government and private sponsors and are responsible for the administration of all such funded programs (post-award)

  5. Who is an employee of the RF? 5 Someone appointed to a project(s) for a period of time Because of the nature of sponsored funding for the projects, appointments are limited with no guarantee of renewal Employment period could be years or months depending on the duration of the research

  6. Project Employment 6 All employees are appointed on projects with a designated project number. Project numbers are used by Grants & Contracts for sponsor and accounting record tracking. 78072 01 04 PROJECT SUB YEAR All appointments have a start and end date. i.e. 8/15/2016 5/31/2017

Sick Leave 11 Sick leave: To be used during your appointment period and is for the employee s own illness, however, As of 4/1/14, the NYC ESTA (Paid Sick Leave Act) allows employees to use 40 hours of sick leave to care for a family member Annual Leave: Service Corps members do not accrue annual leave.

  12. ACCRUAL RATE TABLE 12 Sick Leave Years Of Service 0-3 Sick Leave Rate Per Hour Worked .078571 Employee A worked 24 hours last pay period. The accrued sick leave time for this period would be: 24 hours x .078571 = 1.89

  19. Frequently Asked Questions 19 Q: I received a new hire welcome email (with my employer ID #) from the Research Foundation CUNY, informing me to create a web account. However, when I attempted to do so, I got a message that said Employee ID entered does not match our records. Am I doing something wrong? A: No. You are not doing something wrong. You can only create a web account the day after you receive your new your new hire letter. If you are not able to create a web account the day after you receive your new hire letter, you should contact your Service Manager. IMPORTANT: You will not be able to create a web account until you receive a new hire letter from the Research Foundation, instructing you to do so.

A: You should enroll in Direct Deposit by going to My Payroll and Benefits on Research Foundation s website. Q: Am I expected to create my timesheets online? A: Yes. The web account you created will also allow you to create your timesheets online. Your timesheets can created online at www.rfcuny.org IMPORTANT: After creating your timesheet, you should click on Preview . Verify that the information is correct, then click Save button. DO NOT click on the Save & Submit button.

  21. Frequently Asked Questions 21 Q: When am I expected to enter my first timesheet into the Research Foundation's e-Timesheet system? A: You will be able to enter your first timesheet any time after August 15th 2016 (this is your official start date). So your first timesheet will be for pay period ending 8/21/16 and must be created no later than Sunday, August 21, 2016. Q: Is there a cap on the number of hours that I am allowed to work? A: Yes. You are permitted to work only 12 hours per week, (24 hours bi- weekly) for the CUNY Service Corps.

  22. Frequently Asked Questions 22 Q: What happens if I miss a day from work? Can I make up the day? A: You can make up the day, but only within the same work week.
