  2. PAPER PLANE COMPETITION 1. Design and create a plane 2. Nominate one person in your group to launch your paper plane from the starting line 3. The paper plane that travels the farthest wins!

  4. WHAT IS STEM? STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. STEM is important, not just because of the subjects and topics that you study in school, but the skills and mindset you develop along the way.

  5. WHAT IS STEM? STEM skills and experiences are vital for some really exciting future careers, and for solving some of society s biggest challenges. For example, studying STEM subjects could lead you to being: A climate scientist A cybersecurity engineer A smart infrastructure expert

  6. ENGINEERING DESIGN PROCESS 1. Define the problem 2. Do your research 3. Develop a possible solution 4. Design your solution 5. Build a prototype 6. Test it 7. Evaluate your solutions

  7. PROBLEM SOLVING Problem solving is a key skill needed in STEM and especially in T and E Technology and Engineering! Technologists and engineers create new inventions, software and technologies that make our lives function better. Their role is to look at current problems and create solutions!

  8. DESIGN In 20 minutes, design a new product that uses old materials (that would otherwise go to a landfill). You could design your product out of: Plastic bottles Clothes Toothbrushes OR

  9. . BUILD! In 20 minutes, work with your group to build a working catapult with the following materials: 20 lollipop sticks 20 rubber bands 1 spoon 1 ping pong ball (or you can use a rolled up piece of paper/tinfoil)
