  2. MEANING Cyber crime refers to criminal activities done in the cyber space or through the medium of internet. It is an unlawful act where in computers are used as a tool or a target. It involves criminal activities like fraud, theft, forgery, mischief etc It has also given birth to many new series of crime like hacking, cracking, transmitting virus, carding, pornography etc.

  3. CATEGORIES OF CYBER CRIME Computer as a tool or weapon. Computer as a target . Sometimes as both.

  4. Computers as a tool Using computers to commit real world crimes. Example: cyber terrorism, violation of rights, credit card frauds, electronic fund transfer fraud, pornography etc.

  5. Computer as a target Using a computer to attack others computers. Cyber crime can also be divided into four categories as: 1. cyber crime against persons 2. cyber crime against property 3. cyber crime against government 4. cyber crime against society

  6. 1. Cyber crime against persons Harassment emails Cyber stalking-follow of e-movement Dissemination of obscene material-fake websites, harm Defamation lowering the dignity (hacking) Hacking destroy data E-mail spoofing-originates (misrepresenting) Carding Assault by threat-lives

  7. 2.Cyber crime against property Cyber vandalism-destroy Cyber squatting Transmitting virus-network Cyber trespass-access Internet time theft-Wifi

  8. 3.Cyber crime against Government Cyber terrorism-emails, networks Possession of unauthorized information- political, religious etc

  9. 4.Cyber crime against society Child pornography-exploit mentally Cyber trafficking drugs, arms, weapons etc Online gambling Financial crimes -mails Forgery -marks card
