Welcome! Student Code of Conduct may be accessed at any time at www.acboe.net. Code of conduct sheets will go home the 1st day.
My name is Dashiell Miller. I am originally from Selma, AL. I married a Prattville native. We have 3 wonderful children, Campbell (12), Caroline (8.5). Our sweet caboose Ward (almost 5). I have been teaching for 16 years. I have a Bachelor's Degree from Auburn University and a Master's in Early Childhood Education from AUM. I am so excited about teaching! Our classroom is a place where learning is fun, challenging, and meaningful.
Transportation Tags and Arrival: ALL students must wear a transportation tag to school until the end of the third week of school. (Sept 25) Please do not wait with your child. Beginning the second week of school, parents may walk their children only to the foyer to say goodbye. ** Breakfast will be delivered to each classroom daily. Please note if your child needs breakfast on transportation tag.
Arrival and Attendance Children should wait in the designated areas of the hallway if they arrive between 7:15-7:30 a.m. If your child arrives after 8:00 a.m., check him/her in through the front office. Snack money will be taken up at this time. Please have correct change. For attendance policy refer the PKS Handbook.
Departure: Please notify me IN WRITING if your child s means of transportation in the afternoon changes. Also, if someone is picking up your child (including you) , ALWAYS have a picture ID available, and make sure that person is on approved list in office. In the event that you need to check your child out for an appointment, etc. you may do so through the front office prior to 2:00 p.m. You must also have a note with approved persons name who will be checking your child out.
Car Riders: Car riders are dismissed promptly from 2:10 each day. Parents are to come to the end of the hallway by room 12 for afternoon dismissal only. Please have your ID/PKS Pick Up Pass in hand and we will call for your child at that time. Any additional passes may be purchased in the front office for $2.
Bus Riders: Please let me know in writing by 9:00 am if your child s afternoon bus number changes during the school year. It must be approved by the Transportation Department.
PKS Security We take the safety of your child VERY seriously at PKS. Our school will be locked down from 8:30-2:30 each day. Visitors may enter through the front doors only. Each visitor will be buzzed in at that location. A doorbell is located on the right side of the front door. Please have a photo ID available at all times when on PKS campus. Due to COVID we will not have any visitors on campus until further notice.
Schedule: Lunch-11:50 12:20 PE- 10:10-10:50 Snack-10:50-11:10 Library-12:20 1:00(TUES) Music-12:20 1:00 (TUES) Music and Library will alternate every other week in our classroom.
Protected Reading Block: 8:30-10:45 am The importance of reading (and math) will be emphasized daily beginning at 8:30 am. *It is very important to be in class by 8:00 am! *Also, remember to have your child in school each day (unless illness prevents attendance).
Supplies NO BACKPACK! Spirit Shirt Tote Bag Journals/Handwriting Paper/ Library Bag A supply list came home but is also on the website. A schoolwide powerpoint on the PKS website has some very important information on it as vell.
Discipline: We will be discussing class and school rules during the first week. There will be a more detailed description about our rules and consequences in your child s binder. We will use Paws for good Behavior for our positive behavior. The behavior management system used in our room is a clip chart system. This promotes positive behavior choices and encourages children to self monitor behavior. Children will have the opportunity to clip up if behavior improves. Students are acknowledged for positive behavior choices with coupons each week.

Snack: We eat juice and snack every day. Your child can purchase a juice and snack from school or bring one from home. The cost is $.75 for juice and $.75 for snack. Please do not send carbonated beverages, glass containers, or candy. On Fridays, ice cream is available for snack at $.75. Exact change must be sent to school DAILY in a labeled envelope or Ziploc bag. Any extra money will be considered a classroom donation.
Lunch & Breakfast: You will have the opportunity to fill out a free or reduced lunch form for your child online or a hard copy provided. This form must be returned as soon as possible. Every child will need to pay full price for lunch until it is approved. Please DO NOT combine lunch and snack money in the same envelope. Send a separate envelope for each purchase. Your child will be given a universal pin number. This number will be your child s number for his/her breakfast/lunch account until the child exits the school system.
Lunch & Breakfast (cont.): Lunches sent from home should include enough for to be considered a lunch. If it looks like a snack your child will be provided and his or her account will be charged. Please be mindful that we are eating in the classroom. Some foods are much messier than others. NO pizza lunchables please.! Please practice opening and closing containers and juice pouches independently. **EVERY child needs to bring a Water bottle labled with his Or her name. Water fountains Will be turned off this year due To COVID.
Lunch & Breakfast (cont.): Please keep in mind: Carbonated drinks and candy are not permitted. We will NOT have any breakfast or lunch visitors at this time. These meals will be delivered to the classroom daily. No child will be denied food if they verbalize they are hungry. If you DO NOT want your child to eat it is your responsibility to let us know with a letter in writing. *Please discuss this with your child.
Birthdays: Birthdays will be recognized with a birthday button (summer birthdays will be recognized in May). You may also join the Birthday Club for $5.00. Your child s picture will appear on the announcement TV in the foyer and on the school website for the month of their birthday. They will also receive a small treat from the Treasure Chest. * You may send in cupcakes, etc. as an extra treat at snack time. Please be aware of any food allergies. I am notified of any existing food allergies.
Take-home Folder: Your child will bring their binder home everyday. Please check for any correspondence DAILY. The zipper pouch will be used for any notes or money that you are sending. There will be a behavior calendar for you to INITIAL each day. Every month I send home a calendar of current and upcoming events. Information is also available on our class web site.
Homework: Your child will have homework coming home each week. It will contain a reading and math homework sheet on Mondays. Your child has the entire week to complete this. This is not mandatory, but each homework sheet that is completed with parent s signature will receive a homework stamp or sticker. Extra practice helps in mastery of the skills being taught.
Field Trips / Special Events: All money and permission slips must be turned in two weeks in advance. Money must be turned in to the bookkeeper in advance so that checks can be written to pay for the cost of the trip. Unfortunately, money cannot be received after the deadline, as checks will have been written. Please put money in an envelope labeled with your child s name. Absolutely, no refunds can be given on field trips. Younger siblings and other children are not allowed to go on field trips. We do not have any field trips scheduled at this time.
Clothing: Sandals, flip-flops and crocs are not allowed during P.E. for safety reasons. Closed toe & heel shoes are needed on the playground and in the school gym. **Mask are a requirement this year. It would be helpful for your child to wear his or her mask on a lanyard. This will prevent them from getting lost or dirty.

School Opening Info We are so excited about the 1st Day of Kindergarten. Our class s first day will be TUESDAY, SEPT 8th. Girls and their parents will report at 7:45. Parents will leave by 8:15. Boys and their parents will report at 8:45. Parents will leave by 9:15. Once we have had our FIRST DAY together, the students don t report back until FRIDAY, SEPT. 11th. This staggered start allows you to have the opportunity to participate in the First Day of Kindergarten Milestone with your child.
