DAVID & GOLIATH 1 Samuel 17
The Scene The Philistines occupied one hill and the Israelites another, with the valley between them. (17:3)
Goliath Size No one comparable to him Armor Nothing better Even a shield bearer Intimidating The Challenge Winner take All! On hearing the Philistine s words, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified. (17:11)
David Jesse s youngest son out of 8 boys Errand Runner Pizza Delivery Boy (bread & cheese) Every one noticed Goliath No one noticed David
David hears Goliaths Challenge Whenever the Israelites saw the man, they all fled from him in great fear. (17:24) For forty days the Philistine came forward every morning and evening and took his stand. (17:16) Rumor Whoever accepts challenge (1) Wealth, (2) Wife, (3) Tax Exemption David upset defying the armies of the living God. (17:26)
David & Saul David Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him. (17:32) King Saul You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth. (17:33)
Davids Response to Saul Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. (17:36) The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine. (17:37)
David kneels at the Brook Selects five smooth stones David vulnerable All think David doesn t have a chance Meanwhile Goliath belches out curses and insults Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks? (17:43)
Davids Response to Goliath You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. (17:46-47) David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. (17:48)
