David & Lucile Packard Foundation Fellowships $875,000 over 5 years 22 early-career fellows chosen annually Eligibility: PI in natural and physical sciences or engineering Within first 3 years of faculty career Disciplines: physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, astronomy, computer science, earth science, ocean science, engineering. Packard emphasizes innovative individual research (involving Fellows, their students, and junior colleagues) Does not emphasize extensions or components of large- scale, ongoing research programs. Packard Fellows are inquisitive, passionate scientists and engineers who take a creative approach to their research, dare to think big, and follow new ideas wherever they lead.

David & Lucile Packard Foundation Fellowships Internal Competition Information Internal Competition Components Proposal (up to 2 pages) Outline your goals for the next five years and their importance. CV (up to 2 pages) Letter of Recommendation From department chair or other senior colleague. Three external references from whom letters of support can be solicited. Important Dates for the Competition Internal Deadline: 11:59 MST December 9, 2019 Nomination to Packard Foundation: TBD (Anticipated March 15, 2020) External Application Deadline: TBD (Anticipated mid-April, 2020) Awards Announced: mid-October, 2020

University Advancement: Corporate and Foundation Relations Who we are: On the Foundation Relations side: Andrew Chiacchierini (director), Zach Lynott (director), Amy Hill (Internal Director of Development, College of Engineering) Part of CU s Fundraising Operation In FY 18 Advancement raised: $24 million from private foundations and $147.8 million total from all donors We are here to facilitate CU s and your success with charitable organizations What We Do: We manage CU s engagement with Charitable Organizations (Foundations, Corporations, Community Trusts) NOT FEDERAL AGENCIES Oversee and assist with refining project concepts, proposal development, submission, reporting, closeout Provide a resource for faculty interested in pursuing charitable awards

  7. University Advancement: Corporate and Foundation Relations What does this mean? Manage CU s engagement with Charitable Organizations Manage relationships: single point of contact for foundations Liaise with program officers as CU representatives Ensure that CU maintains productive, working relationships with charitable partners Identify funding opportunities for specific projects Evaluate fit between projects and potential funders Manage traffic between funders, CU Boulder, and CU System Oversee Concept to Closeout We ensure CU is submitting the strongest possible proposals Have decades of collective experience in proposal composition Assist in budget development Work with campus partners (RIO, OCG, CU Foundation) to compile all technical components of proposals: CU financials, compliance considerations, letters of endorsement, anti-discrimination policies, and more Assist with Interim and final reporting Provide a resource for faculty interested in pursuing charitable awards Interpret foundation program guidelines Answer questions SEE OUR TOOLKIT
