  1. Match Official Abuse RFU Guide for Referees (there is work going on elsewhere) Racism (Aston O.E.) Practical implementation Paperwork

  2. Where a Match Official is met with a challenge to their authority doing nothing will rarely, if ever, be a suitable response. Remember next weeks referee

  3. Abuse Survey May 2022 The Match Official Abuse (MOA) 2021/2022 survey was completed by 1,191 England Rugby Referee Society Members in May 2022 and every referee society in the country was represented. 88% of the survey respondents have a primary role as an active referee, and the data represents every level of the refereeing pyramid, from PGMOT to Level 12. 75% of the survey respondents have been refereeing for more than 5 years & 14% are new to refereeing in the last 2 years. 49% of respondents suffered MOA last season.

  4. What did the Match Official Abuse look like Disrespected 43% Verbally abused 41% Threatened by Words / Behaviour 11% Other 5% Only 37% completed a Discipline or MOA report Primary reason for not submitting report (38%) NOT WORTH IT

  5. Disrespecting the authority of the Match Official Are you fucking serious That s fucking bullshit Are you having a laugh Are you fucking joking Fucking wonderful, fucking marvellous That s fucking pathetic With the possible exception of having a laugh ALL WARRANT AN ON FIELD RED CARD

  6. It is a recognised convention of the game that the captain of a team can approach the referee at an appropriate moment to seek clarification for a particular decision. This does not entitle the captain to challenge the decision. Referees should not tolerate approaches from players other than the team captains.

  7. Verbal Abuse You re a fucking joke You re fucking pathetic Are you a retard You re a cheat Come on lads we re playing against 16 here All warrant an on field red card

  8. Using threatening actions or words towards Match Officials Always issue a red card Making physical contact with a Match Official Always issue a red card Physical abuse of a Match Official Always issue a red card

  9. Racism If a MO is made aware of any allegation of discriminatory behaviour being used in a match irrespective of whether the match official themselves heard the comment it must be reported to the CB Disciplinary Secretary after the match. (RFU direction) Aston O.E. because of past history will support the antic-racism move by; Bring the matter to the attention of the referee (assuming he/she did not hear it)

  10. This will happen even if they cannot specifically identify the offender e.g. someone in that group said. They would expect the referee to inform the captain of the offending side. If it happens again out of the ear shot of the referee, the Aston team will walk off.
