  5. Read Chapter 9

  6. Line by Line Read For a moment or two I couldn t move, hardly able to believe my ears. Was it really him? Then a crushing weight of responsibility seemed to lift from my heart. He was here at last. Holmes, I cried, moving for the doorway. Come out, my friend, and please be careful with your revolver. He was sitting on a stone, his eyes dancing with amusement when they saw my astonished face. Task - The BIG question How does Holmes presence at the end of the last chapter suddenly change the mood? Answer in full sentences.

  7. Line by Line Read Suddenly all my suspicions and ill-feeling about the moor moved onto the cold-eyed Stapleton. It was he, then, who was our enemy in this bewildering case. Task - The BIG question What facts are unfolding about the case? How does Watson feel? Answer in full sentences.

  8. Line by Line Read Once again, that terrible scream came rolling across the moor. This time is sounded closer than ever. And now, there was a new sound mixed in with it. It was a deep rumble, a menacing roar, like a storm-smashed sea. I had heard that sound before. Task - The BIG question What other dangers are present on the moor? Answer in full sentences.

  9. Read Chapter 10

  10. Line by Line Read The young lady stared at him in amazement. I have nothing to say. We already know you had arranged to meet Sir Charles at ten o clock at the garden gate of his house. We need to know why you didn t keep this engagement. And I refuse to say, she answered defiantly. I regard this case as one of murder. The evidence may already point not only to your close friend, Mr Stapleton, but also to his wife. His Wife! She screeched, jumping to her feet. 11. Line by Line Read She hesitated, and looked down. I knew he had a wild temper. But I loved him. If he had been true to me, I would have kept my silence. Holmes shook his head. I think you are a lucky woman. For some months now you have been walking on the edge of a precipice, Mrs Lyons. Stapleton is not the kind of man who would risk leaving any witnesses to his involvement in the affair alive for very long. And now we must bid you good morning, for we have a busy day ahead of us.
