Deliver Us from Evil The Desire to be Free Matthew 6:13b
Evil is large, cosmic, organized, subtle, pervasive, and real. The powers never appear as evil or coercive. The powers always masquerade as freedoms that we have been graciously given or as necessities that we cannot live without . It is the nature of the powers to enslave us in the very freedom we thought we were freely enjoying. (William Willimon & Stanley Hauerwas, Lord Teach Us)
John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
1 John 3:8 The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil s work.
Sin destroys our capacity to live. It weakens our vitality. It blinds us to truth. It incapacitates us for living out a healthy love and a vigorous peace. Sin is the fact of separation from God s presence and purposes. (Eugene Peterson, Traveling Light)
Deliverance begins when We turn toward our Heavenly Father We discover worshiping Him and His Holy Name We pray His Kingdom to invade our souls We pray His Will to be done in us We turn to Him for our daily needs We guard our minds and hearts from temptation We cry to Him for deliverance
1 John 4:4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the One Who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will free from you.
1 Peter 1:7 These have come so that your faith of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
