Delving into the Eucharistic Meal
Within the sacred atmosphere of Sunday Mass, God extends an invitation to join Him at the table, partaking in the Eucharistic meal prepared on the altar. Through prayers and offerings, believers express gratitude and recognize the mystical transformation of bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus during the Consecration. This act of communion symbolizes the presence of Jesus among the faithful, fostering a profound spiritual connection within the community.

Sunday Mass God invites us to spend time with Him every Sunday at Mass. There is a meal involved in this occasion called The Eucharist. We are invited because we are all part of God s family.
The Altar The Eucharistic meal is prepared on a special table called the altar. It is decorated with a special white cloth and candles are lit. The gifts of bread and wine are brought to the altar at the Offertory Procession and the priest puts them on the altar and gives thanks to God. With the priest we give thanks to God for all the gifts God has given. We might pray the Blessed be God forever!
Blessed Be God Forever (Priest) Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this bread to offer, which earth has given and human hands have made. It will become for us the bread of life. (Congregation) Blessed be God forever. (Priest) By the mystery of this water and wine may we come to share in the divinity of Christ, who humbled himself to share in our humanity. Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this wine to offer, fruit of the vine and work of human hands. It will become our spiritual drink. (Congregation) Blessed be God forever.
Holy, Holy Prayer (Santus) We say another prayer of thanks to God: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth. Pleni suntc li et terra gloria tua. Hosanna in excelsis. Benedictusqui venit in nomine Domini. Hosanna in excelsis
The Eucharist What does the word Eucharist mean? Jesus and His friends used unleavened bread at the Last Supper because that is what the Israelites has used at the first Passover and the priest uses unleavened bread and wine in the celebration of Mass today just as Jesus did at the Last Supper.
A Wonderful thing During the Mass the most wonderful thing happens at the altar. The Priest calls upon the Holy Spirit to change the bread and the wine into the body and blood of Jesus and he recalls what Jesus said and did at the Last Supper. The bread still looks like bread and the wine still looks like wine but it is now Jesus who is there. This part of the Mass is called the Consecration. Through the actions and words of the priest, the bread is changed into the body and Jesus and the wine is changed into the Blood of Jesus! After the Consecration we encounter the Real Presence of Jesus even although the bread and wine look the same.
Where is the food at this meal? The Body and Blood of Christ is our food and drink and we receive this food and drink at the moment of Holy Communion. When we receive this food and drink at Communion we are joined with Jesus who is really present. The word Communion means united or joining together . When we receive the Eucharist (Holy Communion) we are joined together with Jesus in a very special way.
We believe that a ciborium holds the Body of Jesus and a chalice contains the Blood of Jesus. Ciborium Chalice
When then join in Memorial Acclamation and the Great Amen before going on to pray together the Our Father. By joining the Acclamation and the Great Amen we are showing the we share this wonderful offering to God.
Through him, with him, in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honour is yours, Almighty Father, forever and ever. Amen Our Father, Who art in heaven Hallowed be Thy Name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
