The Department of Analysis and Economic Synthesis (DESE) focuses on developing, improving, and harmonizing methodologies for data collection, economic statistics analysis, and national accounts production. With a team of experts, including permanent and long-term consultants, DESE has made significant strides in areas such as national accounts, price statistics, corporate statistics, short-term economic analysis, and macroeconomic projection. Their achievements include capacity building programs for compiling national accounts, methodological tools development, and support for GDP disaggregation among country members.

Mission and working Intervention areas: - National accounts - Price statistics - Corporate statistics - Short term economic analysis and macroeconomic projection - Staff: 4 permanent experts, 2 long term consultants and external experts
Intervention areas and achievements 1. National accounts Since 1996, significant efforts to implement capacity building program in compiling national accounts of country members Using harmonized methods that comply with SNA 93 (in 1996) Now we are managing to move to SNA 2008
Intervention areas and achievements 1. National accounts Achievements Methodological tools has been developped to support the country members Using the ERETES computer software New activities and products classification (NAEMA and NOPEMA in 2001, revision 1 in 2011) Methodological guide for national accounts compilation in line with SNA 93 being revised now
Intervention areas and achievements 1. National accounts -Methodological document for quaterly national accounts (2011) -ICP Africa : support country members for GDP desagregation
Intervention areas and achievements 2. Price statistics Support for compilation of harmonized consumer price index (CPI) in country members AFRISTAT actions - harmonization of CPI compilation - methodological guide in line of international recommendations
Intervention areas and achievements 2. Price statistics Achievements - 2 projects of harmonized rebasing of CPI (IHPC): 1996 and 2008 financed by WAEMU commission - classifications and methodological guides for IHPC, ICC, PPI - software for CPI compilation ( decentralized compilation ) produced in 2008 - ICP Africa price compilation in the country members

Corporate statistics - Produce and improve quality of corporate statistics - Harmonized methodology for compilation - Recommend harmonized system of corporate statistics - Corporate directory for statistics purpose - System of short term and annual enterprises surveys - Regular compilation and publication of short term economic indicators

Corporate statistics Achievements - Methodological guides completed : Setup of harmonized industrial production index (IPI) 2009 Setup and update an enterprises directory for statistic purpose 2009 Setup of producer price index (PPI) for industry and services 2011 Revision of IPI in line of new international recommendations (2012)

Corporate statistics During the 5 last years, technical supports has been implemented in country members to: - Setup or update IPI ; - Create and update enterprises statistical directory - Organize general corporate census ; - on going setup of PPI, PPIS, turn over index - Organize short term corporate surveys

Macroeconomic analysis and projection Support country members to: Produce short term economic analysis in line of AFRISTAT recommendations Produce macroeconomic short term projections Achievements - Setup and update system of short term economic indicators and macroeconomic analysis
Intervention areas and achievements 4. Macroeconomic analysis and projection -Build and develop capacity of country members by organizing workshops on macroeconomic short term analysis and projection in collaboration with WAEMU and et CAEMU
