A three-step process to detect fake news 1. Check the content of the message 2. Check the design of the message 3. Check the source of the message
1. Check the content of the message Is the message plausible? Is the message consistent with my knowledge? Is the message consistent with current scientific findings? Is the message consistent with reporting in other media?
2. Check the design of the message Content design Visual design Do they use professional language? Do they use emotional images, videos, etc.? If yes, be careful! If not, be careful! Do they use a lot of emotions? If yes, be careful! Do they present several viewpoints? If not, be careful! Do they use a professional design? If not, be careful! Are there spelling mistakes? If yes, be careful!
3. Check the source of the message Who disseminates the message? Where is the message published? By whom is the message published? Who are the "friends" of the publishing person?
