Developing a Toolkit to Support GP Federation in Delivering Care for Children and Young People
Explore the initiative to develop a toolkit supporting GP federations in delivering care for children and young people in general practice. The toolkit aims to assess and address the learning needs of healthcare staff, ensuring quality care for CYP. Get insights into the development process and feedback received for the pilot survey designed for general practice staff. Join the mission to bridge training gaps and enhance services for the well-being of the younger population.

Pilots to develop a toolkit to support GP federation Pilots to develop a toolkit to support GP federation- -based care models for Children and Young People care models for Children and Young People General Practice CYP Learning Needs Assessment based CCGs were given the opportunity to express an interest in HLP supporting them to take part in a pilot to develop a toolkit to support GP federation based care models for children and young people. One of the key themes from the feedback from those that expressed an interest was the need to understand gaps in training for general practice staff around CYP. It was therefore decided that HLP would develop a learning needs assessment that could be used by GP Federations to understand gaps in knowledge better, and potentially provide recommendations for CCGs to develop a learning programme to meet the needs of Children and Young People. Initial thinking was that the survey should aim to gauge: the level of training that general practice staff have had in paediatrics, the training they feel that would be useful to them, and; look for potential gaps in knowledge and training that staff members may be unaware of. 2

Questions relating to organisation and role allow for the survey to be filtered to provide specific results for each group Themes Covered in the survey Clinical Staff Common paediatric conditions Rare but serious paediatric conditions Chronic disease management Legal / safeguarding / clinical governance Preferred methods of learning Concerns and issues Non-clinical Staff Legal / safeguarding / clinical governance Preferred methods of learning Concerns and issues The first draft of survey was presented to the GP Leadership Forum for comment 3
