Activity/Forum for Teachers/Instructors/Staff Forum for Dual Credit Teachers, Instructors, Staff (Secondary and College) These forums typically follow a one-day workshop format. (College or Secondary School students may in some cases also be part of this kind of activity. In such cases, their participation would be funded according to the same benchmark amount.) Benchmark: $50 / participant SCWI RFP 2020-2021, Benchmarks for Activities and Forums (http://scwi.ca/resources/docs/Requirements_2021-24_EL/SCWI_2021- 22_Activities_Forums_Benchmarks20201209.pdf) 5 SCWI/IJECT

  6. Funding Dual Credit Educator Forums Teacher Release Time and Transportation Teacher release time and transportation funding are not included in the benchmark calculations. Please record the costs you expect to incur in these categories in the Additional Funding section of the Activities/Forums online application. In the case of teacher release, RPTs should work with boards to minimize this expense by accessing board PD funds where possible. 13. Proposal Example This forum will be hosted about 3 weeks prior to the beginning of each dual credit course and OYAP Level 1 intake. This forum will promote the needed dialogue between the College Instructor and the Secondary School Dual Credit Teachers. All College faculty will attend to learn about the logistics of Dual Credits and updates/changes we've made to the program. Secondary Dual Credit Teachers will be able to share their role and the importance of on-going and consistent communication with College Faculty to support the success of the students. This is an opportunity to educate new faculty to SCWI and give a provincial overview as well as re-engage returning faculty by sharing statistics/data and success stories from previous years. We also include a best- practices panel and 3 exemplary faculty were selected to speak about tried and true methods they found to work well in Dual Credits. 13 SCWI/IJECT

  17. Dual Credit Educators Key to Student Success In a Dual Credit program, both educators (dual credit teacher, college faculty) have a significant role to play; the roles are different both are key to students being successful Both categories of dual credits offer rich experiences for students College experience, typically on campus college instructor delivers instruction with the students receiving support of the dual credit teacher Team-taught two educators working together to support student learning 17 SCWI/IJECT

  18. Building Trusting Relationships between Dual Credit Educators Start with the rules (assessment, evaluation, attendance, classroom expectations, procedures) What s the same? What s different? (not what s right/wrong, better/worse) Partners need to be on the same page then can move forward 18 SCWI/IJECT

  19. The Value of Building Relationships Between Dual Credit Educators In a team-taught dual credit, the content of the college courses would be the same in both cases The common bond for the two educators will be the subject matter they are trying to teach these students how the course content is delivered and evaluated may be what is different. The key is exploring different ways to motivate and engage students, so that ultimately, they can be successful in mastering the subject matter. 19 SCWI/IJECT

  20. The Value of Building Relationships Between Dual Credit Educators How do we help dual credit educators build a trusting relationship so they can support one another to improve student achievement? Where these relationships exist, collaborative professional conversations can problem solve issues or concerns or situations: Lack of student engagement Issues with course delivery, including expectations, volume, timing, gaps in specific pre-requisite skills/knowledge assessment and evaluation differences in polices and procedures around standards in the two systems deadlines, passing grades, missed assignments 20 SCWI/IJECT

  21. Making the Connection. More support for K 12 and PSE educators to combine their shared expertise could be the missing link to transforming education and achieving system change on a grander scale.
