District Leadership Academy Developing Leaders Beyond the Club
2 DISTRICT LEADERSHIP ACADEMY The purpose of the District Leadership Academy is to provide intensive training for Rotarians who have high potential for future leadership positions within District 6200 and potentially beyond. DLA lessons are designed to develop knowledge and ideas beyond what would ordinarily be encountered in the club and to develop knowledge of resources so that participants will know where to go to develop additional Rotary knowledge and skills.
3 CANDIDATE CRITERIA 1. Demonstrate outstanding qualifications for Rotary leadership. 2. Should have served for a full term as president of a Rotary club when the course begins. A candidate that has not served as a president of a Rotary club must have graduated Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI). 3. Must be willing, upon completion of the course, to serve in a district leadership position or on a district committee and be physically and mentally capable of discharging leadership tasks to which he/she may be recruited. Every DLA graduate will be asked to serve in a district role. 4. Must be willing to devote the time and effort necessary to satisfactorily complete the course.
4 COURSE STRUCTURE The course of training takes the form of an extension course consisting of: 1. An Orientation Seminar in August (remote via Zoom) 2. Seven self-paced correspondence lessons with three weeks to complete each course 3. A face-to-face Summary Seminar and Graduation Ceremony at the District Conference. 4. Candidates are expected to participate in two of several District activities. The correspondence lessons are updated annually and are in an Adobe Acrobat fillable form.
5 THE COURSES 1. Rotary District 6200 Policies and Procedures 2. Membership 3. Public Image and Awareness 4. Service Projects 5. The Rotary Foundation 6. Youth Services 7. Organization & Structure of Rotary International & The Rotary Foundation
6 THE FACULTY 1. All are experienced Rotarians in the lesson they have volunteered to facilitate. 2. All are RLI and OMR PETS Facilitators. 3. All have served Assistant Governors, and most have served as District Governors. 4. Spend many hours updating source materials, revising their lesson based on current Rotary guidelines, creating an answer key for the lesson, and responding to each participant.
