Price Statistics 2010 2013 Achievements/Highlights Regional training workshop on price statistics (2011) First workshop on price statistics for the Pacific Ability for some countries to rebase CPI on their own-minimal external assistance i.e Samoa,Fiji and Vanuatu South-South aspect in training Consumer price index and on job training Kiribati CPI rebased to 2006 with new staff trained (2013) Samoa CPI rebase attachment and training (2010) Vanuatu CPI rebase attachment Peer reviews in methods for CPI Fiji, American Samoa Ad-hoc support to specific compilation issues (Nauru, Tuvalu etc) 3

Proposed way forward/Recommendations Enhancing processes of statistical advocacy ensure key national policy makers are properly aware of the resource needs and challenges in the statistical production process. Revitalising data user-producer dialogue-two way feedback enhance availability of primary data to NSOs for compilation of national accounts and other related statistics. NSOs must consider setting their priorities within a broader framework of strategic plans e.g NSDS; Need for NSOs to review current remuneration practices to avoid the best economics and statistics graduates being snapped up by Planning Departments and Central Banks. 6
