Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families 2 Wellbeing Passport Training Purpose of this session The purpose of this section is to bring together the various components of practice to create a passport for David The intention is to practice each of the steps in a series of short exercises. This session should not involve new ideas but just be an opportunity to practice.
Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families 3 Wellbeing Passport Training Timing of the assessment engagement Attunement to the feelings of the child or young person is paramount it might lead to a much slower assessment Difficult to engage children and young people will not necessarily be open to the assessment immediately This is why the first contact and beginning to build trust is so important It is also why part of the assessment approach includes working with young ambassadors/ care experienced young people to support the young person as appropriate.

Imagine what you think some of the issues might be 2. What measures might you use for your mental health assessment (refer to practice tools matrix) 3. Use the mentalising stance, including noticing how you feel
Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families 5 Wellbeing Passport Training Preparing for the consultation with the Virtual Mental Health Lead Review all the data on David: the scores already on the passport, the 3 houses notes Pull together the information by discussing what this tells you. In the passport fill out the measures scores and the three areas of: Relationships, Behaviour, Emotions Write with the child as the first person I am ..
Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families 6 Wellbeing Passport Training Filling out the summary - Practice One person is the VMHL and two people are the practitioners. Together draft the passport summary section: Summary of my needs Summary of main difficulties My view of the problem (if different) Be sure to note this is a draft to be discussed later with the young person. 10-15 minutes Come together as a group to discuss how you found it

Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families 8 Wellbeing Passport Training Making a plan Have a discussion about making a plan with the young person. What level of support are you going to offer? Are you going to look for specialist assessment and treatment? Complete the last part of the passport which sets out who will do what when etc?
