  3. Diploma Options There are 4 Diploma Option choices to graduate from DHS You must pick an Endorsement Option in 8thgrade You can change your Endorsement Option with parent approval in high school

  4. Traditional Diploma Requirements Student should identify an endorsement area prior to entering 9th grade. Endorsement requirements can only be changed with parental permission. For early release students must have met College or Career Readiness Benchmarks (ACT sub scores 17 English and 19 Math or earned a Silver level on ACT WorkKeys or SAT equivalency sub scores). Alternately, a student must meet ALL of the following: Have a 2.5 GPA Passed or met all MAAP assessments requirements for graduation On track to meet diploma requirements Concurrently enrolled in Essentials for College Math or Essentials for College Literacy OR SREB Math Ready or SREB Literacy Ready; or currently enrolled/earned credit for Comp. I and/or College Algebra

  5. Career & Tech Diploma Requirements Earn an overall GPA of 2.5. Earn Silver level on ACT WorkKeys. Earn two additional Carnegie Units for a total of 26. Must successfully complete one of the following: One dual credit or earn articulated credit in the high school CTE course Work-Based Learning experience Earn a State Board of Education- approved national credential One (1) AP, Diploma Program-IB, or Cambridge (AICE) course aligned to their career pathway. Students must earn a C or higher and take the appropriate exam

  6. Academic Diploma Requirements Earn an overall GPA of 2.5. Two (2) elective courses must meet MS IHL CPC requirements. Earn Mississippi IHL and community college readiness benchmarks (ACT sub scores 17 English and 19Mathas approved by postsecondary fornon- remediation at most community colleges or IHL college-ready courses in senior year, or the SAT equivalency subscore). Earn two additional Carnegie Units for a total of 26. Must successfully complete one of the following: One AP course with a C or higher and take the appropriate APexam One Diploma Program-IB course with aCor higher and take the appropriate IBexams One dual creditcourse with a C or higher in the course Carnegie Curriculum Area Required Subjects Units English I English II + two (2) additional above English II English 4 Algebra I + two (2) additional math courses above Algebra I Biology + two (2) additional science courses above Biology 1 World History 1 U.S. History U.S. Government Mathematics 4 Science 3 Social Studies 3 Economics Mississippi Studies Physical Education Health The Arts 1 1 See the Mississippi Public School Accountability Standards for implementation options. College and Career Readiness 1 Technology or Computer Science Must meet two (2) advanced electives of the College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC) requirements for MS IHLs Electives 7 Total Units Required 26

  7. Distinguished Diploma Requirements Earn an overall GPA of 3.0. Two (2) elective courses must meet MS IHL CPC recommended requirements. Earn national college readiness benchmarks on each subtest established by ACT of 18 in English and 22 in Math or SAT equivalency subscoreas defined by IHL. Earn four additional Carnegie Units for a total of 28. Must successfully complete one of the following: One AP course with a B or higher and take the appropriate APexam One Diploma Program-IB course with a Bor higher and take the appropriate IBexams One dual creditcourse with a B or higher in the course

  8. Attendance Policy Allowable absences excused and unexcused: .5 credit class- 4 1 credit class- 8 A loss of credit would result if the attendance policy is not followed.

GPA & QPA You will have 2 averages on your transcript GPA (Grade Point Average) is based on a standard 4.0 scale QPA (Quality Point Average) is based on taking challenging courses and is used to determine your rank All of your grades will start counting in your GPA and QPA- ICT 2, CC Math 8, MS Studies, W Geo, Spanish, and/or Art Colleges/Scholarships look at your GPA and class rank

Credits When you finish a course you are awarded credit for the course A .5 credit course lasts one quarter (9 weeks) A 1 credit course lasts one semester (18 weeks) A 2 credit course lasts two semesters (all year) You take 4 credits each semester and can earn 8 credits in a year To move on to the next grade level, you have to earn enough credits (example- 8 credits to move to 10thgrade)

  11. Online Course Scheduling 1st: Click on Class Registration

  12. Online Course Scheduling 2nd: Click on the pencil icon under 9thgrade electives to select the electives you want. Select 4-8 courses depending on the credit type. Click Okay. 3rd: Click on the pencil icon under 9thgrade alternate electives to select the alternate electives you want. Select 2-6 courses depending on the credit type. Click Okay.

  13. Online Course Scheduling 4th: After your elective courses have been selected, they will show up on your registration page.

  14. Suggestions Fine Arts is required and can be any of the courses listed under the Fine Arts Section. A foreign language is not required to graduate but you need at least one for college entrance. You need to at least have a C in English to do well. You may take PE for a 9 weeks, a semester, or a year. Do not select any sport unless you have already made the team. PE, Band, Choir, JROTC 1, and in-school sports count as PE (.5 required).
