Digital wellness Social media is a huge part of our lives, over 12 and a half trillion hours are used for social media worldwide. Because of this, social media is now a huge part of most people s lives which for the most part isn t that much of a bad thing really. Social media is really helpful by letting people everywhere connect with family and friends to let us know how they are and what they are doing. It helps businesses grow and advertise their products to people. Social media also keeps us up with current events. That is what I also mainly use social media for too, to talk with my parents and to message my friends about stuff. Social media is very good at helping us connect with people and keep bonds intact. Privacy and Security Since the social media is so big some people would post inappropriate or bad things that young children should not be able to view. There are also dangers of other people on the internet trying to groom children on social media apps like TikTok or Reddit and if the kid is young they are probably very na ve and easy to manipulate which would result in them being groomed. Another danger is that a kid could post embarrassing videos of themselves and get bullied and made fun of for that. Another thing is that kids could also get exposed to inappropriate subject matter that would make them act weird around peers and parents. There are dangerous trends that they could be exposed to and could possible try and recreate them such as the penny challenge where you put a penny into an electrical socket or the blackout challenge which has you choke yourself until you blackout. A mature teenage kid would easily be able to understand and know what to do and to not do on the internet but a young impressionable child wouldn t be able to as easily as them. When getting a job now, your boss and employers always check your social media accounts to see if you have good behaviour on them or not. It can drastically affect the chances of getting a job or now. 66% of employers now even check your grammar on your accounts and hold strict rules about them, companies also have rules about what you can post on your social media and if you break them you would probably be fired. Digital Communication A good way to ensure that your online relationships are good is considering the impact of your words online, it is easy to say whatever you would like as you are not talking face to face but think about how what you say could really be insulting to the other person you re talking to. A really good thing you should do is to give and take feedback from people because it is the best way to learn and be better at what you are doing. It is also good to give feedback because it could make people think about that blind spot that they didn t know how to deal with. You should also always be respectful of other people s opinions and views, this is a very good thing to outside of the internet as well because nobody has the same views but you need to learn to deal with them and to accept them for what they are.
