  1. The Kyrgyz Republic

  2. It is located in the north- eastern part of Central Asia. It borders with Kazakhstan in the north, with Uzbekistan in the west, with Tajikistan in the south- west, with China in the east and south-east

  3. Total area: 199,900 km2

  4. Length of state border: 4,503 km

  5. Height of territory of Kyrgyzstan varies from 401 up to 7439 m above a sea level. About 94% of its territory is on a height of more than 1000 m above sea level, from which 40 % is higher than 3000 m above a sea level.

  6. Kyrgyzstan has various kinds of resources: power, mineral, fresh and mineral water, has significant potential for development of tourism.

  7. The countrys population is over 5.6 million. The largest ethnic group are Kyrgyz. They make up 72% of the population and are spread throughout the country

  8. Other large ethnic groups are: Russian, Uzbek, Ukrainian, German, Tatar, Dungan, Kazakh, Uigur, Tadjik

  9. Totally, representatives of 80 nations and nationalities live in Kyrgyzstan

  10. Capital: Bishkek

  11. Languages: national language- Kyrgyz, official language- Russian

  12. Administrative division: 7oblasts, 40 administrative rayons, 22 cities and towns, 429 rural municipalities

  14. Kyrgyzstan is mountainous country. The highest point is Pobeda Peak (7439 m). The lowest point of Kyrgyzstan is located in Batken region, at an altitude of 401 m above sea level. .

  15. Throughout the country there are two major mountain systems. They are Tien-Shan in the north-east and Pamir-Alay in the south-west.

  22. Kyrgyzstan joined with the other four Central Asian Republics to formally enter the new Commonwealth of Independent States on 21 December 1991.

  23. In 1992, Kyrgyzstan joined the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe(OSCE).

  26. Manasis a traditional epic poem of the Kyrgyz people. The poem, with close to half a million lines, is twenty times longer than Homer's Odyssey, and one of the longest epics in the world. Manas was a hero,who fought against the Chinese and Kalmyks in the 9th century to preserve Kyrgyz independence.
