When humpback whales dive below the surface, they have to lift their tail flukes out of the water, showing a special black and white pattern on the underside. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ca276/6201035098/lightbox/
Flukes range from all white, to all black, and everything in between. They are as unique as a human fingerprint or birthmark. http://whale.wheelock.edu/Welcome.html
