  6. Y t, quin eres? We are going to read a brief poem by Chicano activist, educator, and poet Jos Gonz lez. The author shared this poem on his social media profiles in 2018. Paso 1. With a partner, read the poem Y t , qui n eres? (Who are you?) by Jos Gonz lez. Highlight any cognates. Paso 2. With a partner, discuss the topic of the poem. Based on the cognates and the title, what do you think this poem is about? What might be the author s message?

As a Mexican-American, Gonz lez has a mixed identity, with influences from both Mexican and American culture. Now, you will write your own poem describing your identity. Paso 1. Think about who you are as part of a global community. What groups or cultures do you associate with? What people, places, ideas, or things are part of your identity?
