  3. WHAT`S IN A NAME The nickname of my state is magnolia It got it`s nickname from the magnolia trees and the state flower blossom Mississippi got it`s name from the Mississippi river though it was named many things by the Indians Mississippi was the most called

  5. OPINION BEFORE WRITING REPORT I didn`t want to live there in the first place I wasn`t sure what it would be like if it was coastal or mountain I heard lots of things about it

EARLY HISTORICAL FACTS First known inhabitants : before the Europeans came there were 3 Indian tribes the Chickasaw, Choctaw, and the Natchez Exploration : The first European to cross through Mississippi was Hernando de Soto . Soto was a French explorer he traveled to Mississippi in 1540. Settlement : The first settlement was fort Maurepas built by Pierre D Lbervill in 1798. Colonial or Territorial days : Winthrop the first governor of Mississippi territory arrived in Natchez in 1798 David Holms 4th governor and the first of the state of Mississippi

  7. PHYSICAL FEATURES My state has 6 main land regions. There is the delta, the red clay hills , the appalachin foothills, the black prairie, the piney woods, and the gulf coast. Highest point 806 Ft. at Mississippi river. Lowest point is 300 Ft. at Mississippi river. It ranks at 47 size among other states.

  12. MISSISSIPPI SONG Where can you hear a country song far and someone play the honky tonk guitar where all the lights will go one by one . The people join the song and the wind takes it away where the Mississippi rolls down the sea and lovers found the place they'd like to be . How many times before the song was ending .love and understanding everywhere around Mississippi I'll remember you whenever should go away I`ll be longing for the day I will be in Greenville again Mississippi you`ll be on my mind every time I hear this song for ever lost it`s soul when the guitar player turned to rock & roll . And every time when summer dreams of yesterday Mississippi I`ll remember you whenever I should go away.

  14. RESOURCES Water : Mississippi has great river system one of the best in the world. Soil : really fertile soil agriculture is great. Minerals : there is oil , sand , gravel , coal , and limestone. Plant life : There is pine , oak , and gum trees in every area, Animal life : furbearers , skunks, possums , otters , muskrats , beavers , raccoons , and black bears.

NATIONAL PARKS & MORE Battle of Booneville , battle of Brices , cross roads , battle of Corinth , battle of grand golf , battle of Raymond , battle of tupelo , battle of Vicksburg bevoir , Biloxi lighthouse byum mounds , chicksaw point , civil war interpoint center , Elizabeth female academy , emerald mound , ghost of deer island , and fire water ghost , graves of unknown confederates , grand gulf military monument.

  16. FAMOUS PEOPLE Elvis Presley : He was an actor and famous singer he was from 20th century. Britny Spears : Is a singer , dance , and an actress. Oprah winfry : is an actress media proprietor , talk show host , producer , and philanthropist. Jimmy Buffet : is a songwriter, author , actor , and businessman. James Earl Jones : was one of the best actors he acted around 60 years.

  17. GOVERNMENT AND ECONOMY u.s. senators : 2 u.s. representative`s : 3 Electoral votes : 6 Agricultural products : cotton , corn , livestock , peanuts , and wheat. Minerals : petrified woodmess , petrified wood. Manufactured goods : meatpacking , and poultry processing plants.

  18. VISITOR`S GUIDE Oxford : is a college / university Jackson : Jackson Mississippi is a huge city it`s also Mississippi`s capital there are so many things to do in Jackson. Natchez : is located on the Mississippi river it was the original capital but was changed because Louisiana was across the river. Arkabuta lake : is a beautiful getaway Coldwater nature lake.

  19. MY OPINION AFTER REPORT I think Mississippi`s history is interesting but I still wouldn't want to live there . There is still lots of stuff to do in Mississippi . A lot of people live or lived there and it`s not the most beautiful place but its okay.
