Mountains - Australia, Mount Kosciuszko By Isabella Versace
Introduction Introduction One thing that is special about Australia is some of our mountains like Mount Kosciuszko because of its snow, it s plants and it s shape. I have some things to share about this!
Features - The mountain Some parts of a mountain is a icefall, glacier, arete and the ridge. - The icefall and the glacier are best friends. - The glacier is huge frozen river of ice and they move extremely slowly and sometimes when it becomes deeper into winter they become frozen. - The icefall is a portion of a GLACIER that covers the bedrock. - The Ridge is a long chain of mountains that have the same size and width. - The Arete Is formed when a mountains sharp top is shaped down to a straight edge!
Pygmy Possum Burramyidae is the marsupial family that the pygmy possum lives in. They grow to about 5 to 12 cm in width. They are nocturnal and they eat seeds, fruit, nectar and pollen. They are not like other possums so they can not glide or leap! They have really sharp teeth and they are becoming endangered.
Pasque flower The pasque flower is one of the first flowers to wake up in the spring, Pasque flower has silvery and cheery purple blooms. The seeds spread more when its spring or summer. It does not have thorns and the flower is also called the May flower. It can grow up to 0.5 - 1.5 feet tall and it has 5 - 8 pettalls. The flower needs pure sunlight and pure water to survive. It also needs night shade so it can close up and heal.
Weather and Terrain The mountains terrain is filled with grass and small plants. The terrain is also bumpy and rocky. The weather is cold at the top of the mountain because its the closest to the sky and it also snows in winter. In the morning its VERY cold - so its about 1 to 5 degrees. There are a lot of rain and in the middle of the day light breezes occur.
Facts Because its so high up, the top of the mountain is cold, frozen and covered in snow! Some other animals are bush pig, honey badger, corroboree frog and the cocobarras.
Natural Disasters Some natural disasters in the mountains are earthquakes and avalanches because mountains are steep and are close to the crust of the earth - So that means that they will have more of a effect.
Thank you for watching and I hope you learnt something new!!! By Isabella Versace
