  2. SUPERINTENDENTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE: MAGNET SCHOOLS Purpose: The purpose of the committee is to make recommendations to the Superintendent regarding current and future magnet programs in VUSD.

SUMMARY OF COMMITTEE WORK - UPDATE Survey was developed for magnet school teachers, students and parents to gather data on current magnet stakeholder perceptions of their school Results were analyzed by the committee and summary statements shared for each of the magnet schools: Casita, VAVPA, Vista Magnet MS, Mission Vista HS Based upon survey data, next steps were suggested for each of the four current magnet schools

  6. COMMITTEE WORK - UPDATE District wide survey was developed by sub- committee to gather input on a possible magnet theme for the Washington Middle School, reviewed by the committee, and mailed home to K-8 families in English and Spanish and made available online to K-12 families. Connect Ed call made to families.

  7. COMMITTEE WORK - UPDATE Survey raw data was compiled for the committee s review: 76% parents indicated they would move their child to a magnet school 445 responses to survey 2% response Using survey data as part of the process, committee discussed and unanimously approved a recommendation to the Superintendent

  8. ADVISORY COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION TO SUPERINTENDENT The District Magnet Program Committee recommends to the Superintendent the middle school magnet theme Design and Innovation

  10. STEM PATHWAY Vista Magnet Middle Mission Vista High School Casita Elementary

  11. IB PATHWAY Vista Magnet or Washington Middle Vista or Rancho Buena Vista High School VAVPA or Casita Elementary

  12. NEXT STEPS Convene Planning Committee for Washington Middle School Transition Process Consider Name Change Vista Innovation Design Academy (VIDA) ? Curriculum & Instruction Plans Staffing Plans Professional Development Plans Marketing Plans Facility Plans Student Transition Plans Convene Routine Meetings of Magnet School Representatives to promote ongoing articulation and coordination

  13. RECOMMENDATION Respectfully request approval for three magnet pathways: STEM Arts/Design International Baccalaureate Respectfully request approval to specifically identify focus area for Washington Middle School to be Innovation and Design
