Actors take the roles of characters , perform the indicated action and utter the written dialogue. In other words ,Drama is a performative art in which a group of actors play the roles of certain characters before audience. The things which can not be presented on the stage are conveyed to the audience through symbols, suggestions and offstage sounds and utterances.

  6. PLOT Plot is the most significant part of the drama. It is the systematic and well organized arrangement of events and incidents. A good plot should have a beginning, middle and end. It should have unity of action which means the incidents should be bound together by internal necessity. Each action should lead inevitably to the next with no outside intervention. Plot can be categorized as (a)Simple and (b) Complex. In a simple plot , the action moves continuously and uniformly in one direction without any reversal or change. On the other hand , there is an abrupt change of direction in the complex plot.

  7. CHARACTERS Characters are imaginary persons who take part in the action of the play. They are endowed with moral and dispositional qualities that are expressed through dialogue and action. In other words , characters reveal themselves through dialogues and action. A character may remain essentially unchanged in his outlook and dispositions from beginning to end of a work or he/she may undergo a radical change either through gradual development or as the result of an extreme crisis.

  10. DICTION OR STYLE Diction is choice and arrangement of words and images in literary composition . According to Aristotle, diction or style should fulfill two conditions: 1. It should be clear 2. It should not be mean He suggests the use of archaic words and metaphors according to the suitability of the plot.

  11. MUSIC Music is an integral part of drama. The musical notes and songs can be used to push the plot forward and to move the story to a higher level of intensity. Characters passions , fears and desires can be effectively conveyed to the audience through lyrics and music.
