  1. Early College/ Dual Enrollment

  2. Benefits of College Coursework Gives students the ability to take multiple college-level classes in the college setting while working towards their high school degree. Students who take part in the program save valuable time and money by completing multiple general education courses at the dual-credit tuition rate. Frees up the length of time in college for internships, additional majors, study abroad, and/or graduating early. Rigorous academic challenge similar to AP. o AP teaching to a test, more rigorous and teaches great preparation/study skills. No guarantee for college credit. o Dual-Credit College experience, guaranteed credit with passing grade, and a higher academic challenge than HS.

  3. Dual Enrollment Some classes offered during course of school day on Ryle s campus. Limited communication from professors midterms from NKU. Students follow calendar of respective college if off campus. More flexibility of classes can take classes needed for your major. o Can go in the evenings, online or whatever accommodates your schedule.

  5. University of Kentucky Next Gen Scholars Dual Credit Program Designed to meet the UK Core general education course requirements. Cohort model (students move through these period together) Collaboration between UK professor (virtual) and Ryle staff (on site). Classes held on Monday/Wednesday/Friday Tuesday/Thursday used for remediation or support

  6. University of Kentucky Next Gen Scholars Dual Credit Program Entrance Requirements o 2.5 GPA and completion of 10thgrade Classes held on Monday/Wednesday/Friday. Tuesday/Thursday used for remediation or support. Fall classes include: o WRD 110: Composition and Communication I o TBD Spring classes: WRD 112: Composition and Communication II TBD

  7. Early College Students experience the courses at Gateway s Boone County Campus in their first year along with students from Boone County s 3 other high schools. Transportation is provided. Courses are offered in the morning, leaving time to return to Ryle for elective such as PLTW, band or choir. Students follow Gateway s calendar for breaks and weather. Some support provided o Starfish system at Gateway to flag attendance/grade issues

  8. Three Different Institutions NKU, TMU and Gateway: All three colleges come together to partner with the Boone County Schools. Courses are selected specifically for transferability and to be used as dual-credit. Due to the State of Kentucky's Gen Ed transferability policy, Gateway and NKU general education courses will fully transfer to any other KY state institution. All three institutions have their own admission processes. Students need to complete the process for each institution they wish to take classes from. Each institution enrolls students into their assigned courses. Questions regarding the courses should be addressed to the appropriate institution.

  12. Associate Degrees For students that take all courses and have additional credit (AP, CLEP, dual credit), it may be a possibility for them to earn an Associate Degree. Gateway is a college that awards Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees. Any student who thinks they are on the path to earning this must meet with Chris Stout to have a degree audit completed. It takes a minimum of 60 college credit hours in specific areas to earn this degree. Questions about earning the AA or AS degree should contact Chris Stout. (chris.stout@kctcs.edu)

  13. Cost of the Programs Tuition $95/credit hour $95/credit hour $95/credit hour Textbooks $75-125 Average $75-100 Average $50-$125 Average The above tuition amounts are for school year 2020/21. The 2020-2021 tuition will be announced in late spring or early summer. We generally see a slight increase from year to year. Kentucky currently offers a Dual-Credit Scholarship for a max of two classes per student during their high school career. Information on this program can be found on the KHEAA website and search dual-credit scholarship .

  14. Important Information Registration into courses: The colleges will handle the registration into their courses. Students will be notified once they are enrolled. Orientation: There will be an orientation held in May to orient students to the program at the Gateway Boone Campus. Information will be sent to students who are enrolled in courses at a later date. Grades: Each college shares grades with the BCEC and high school staff. Academic Calendar: Since the program is held at the Gateway Boone Campus, the BCEC program follows the Gateway Academic Calendar. This includes fall, winter, spring breaks, and any additional closings. Inclement Weather: Students are to watch for Gateway delays or closings during inclement weather. Classes will be in session unless the college is closed.
