Who is EACO? African (EACO) The Organization organization that brings together national ICT regulators, operators, services providers (in the telecommunication, broadcasting and postal sub-sectors) institutions and other stakeholders in the communication sector Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. East Communications is a regional ICT training within Burundi,
EACOs Objective The broad objective of EACO which was established in 2000 is to strengthen and promote cooperation among the five EAC Countries in the development and provision of postal, telecommunication broadcasting services and Headquartered in Kigali, Rwanda. and Africa in East

Terms of Reference To analyze the level of e-waste in the region and its impact on humans and the environment. To harmonize policies, strategies and regulations on e-waste management in the region. To recommend adoption of green ICT best practices by stakeholders in the communications sector. To recommend national and regional environmentally sound e-waste management systems for the EAC region. To develop strategies for public awareness on issues relating to e-waste. To recommend strategies for between National ICT Regulators, National Environmental Management Authorities management Agencies with a view to establishing and strengthening the e-waste management systems within the region. collaboration/cooperation and other environmental
Terms of Reference To coordinate and follow up the work of the relevant ITU Study Group(s) and facilitate the recommendations or contributions relating to the work of this ITU Study Group(s) or other relevant international and regional organization. To harmonize the framework for ICT management within the region To establish mechanism for the mobile operators sharing of data on blacklisted ICT gadgets within the region development of regional counterfeit gadgets
Highlights of Activities Established National E-waste Management Steering Committee (NSC) in all 5 countries, waiting for South Sudan Established Regional E-waste Management Steering Committee (RSC) with Chairpersons and Secretaries of NSC as members Regional E-waste Strategy Compilation and Update of Member status on e- waste management
Highlights of Activities Review Management collaboration capacity building on Green ICT and e waste management. Already conducted E-waste and Green ICTs training to members. Partnered in EWAM 2017 E-waste surveys (Kenya and Rwanda completed. Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi and South Sudan in progress) Model Framework on E-Waste with HR committee enhance
