  2. Welcome! Getting to know your school: ELC serves students from PK 1stGrade. We are committed to creating a learning environment which is centered around students, directed by teachers and staff, and supported by home and community to develop excellence in education and strong foundations for lifelong learning. Goals for ELC open house: To help parents understand the work their child will be doing throughout the school year. To explain ELC expectations of their child. To share information about how parents can support their child s learning. New information: Mask Mandate for ALL students, faculty and staff!

  3. Principal Jessica Landry I have worked with Saint Martin Parish School Board for 29 years. I have been an ELC administrator for 18 years. I am married to David Landry and we have two children Lauren and Logan. I am excited to start my 30thyear in education with excellence!   13. All registrations can and should be completed online at SMPSB website. All students entering PK MUST complete the registration online and all NEW students will need to register for entering grade level. Enrollment Information Contact Cheryl Dugas for registration questions at 394-4763

School Times for 2021-2022 school year: 7:05 AM students can begin to arrive 7:35 AM Last serve for Breakfast 7:40 AM Tardy Bell Regular School Hours 7:45 AM Instruction Begins 10:30-12:00 PM Assigned Lunches 2:50 PM PK Car Riders begin to Dismiss-Green Tags 2:55 PM K Car Riders begin to Dismiss Yellow Tags 3:00 PM First Car Riders begin to Dismiss Red Tags 3:05 Buses begin to Dismiss 3:13 Walkers are Dismissed 3:25 All Car Riders Must be picked up (Late fees will be charged after 3:25 PM)

  15. Car Rider Procedures All cars will line up in a Single File Line. First PK car stops at the first gate. Please stay in your car and duty teachers will load your child in the backseat. Please display the colored car rider tag your child s teacher gives you. You must tell your child s teacher at orientation/ testing if your child will be a permanent car rider so we can properly place them. If not permanent then please make arrangements for a permanent bus number as they dismiss first from our gym. 2:50 pm ONLY PK GREEN tag students will begin loading 2:55 pm Next, K YELLOW tag students will begin loading 3:00 pm Last, First grade RED tag students will begin loading If you have multiple children to pick up - please come at oldest child s time as you will be asked to go around since we can not block our flow of traffic with dismissal procedures. Older students are in class till their dismissal time so please don t ask for them early. All car riders must be picked up by 3:25 PM - late fees will apply.

  16. Each grade level teacher will contact you to arrange an appointment. Please have ALL supplies labeled and ready for drop off at this assigned time. Orientation/ Meet the Teacher ALL First Grade students begin on August 16th PK and K teachers will contact you for individual testing appointments and beginning of the school year schedules.

  17. Teachers will cover Curriculum Goals weekly Detailed weekly syllabus will be sent home describing what the students will study during the school week including home learning assignments. A communication folder will go home daily with your child to help you communicate with your child s teacher. Teachers will suggest ways that parents can help their child learn, such as reading together for 15 minutes a day. Please sign their folder daily as it will have important information for you to stay informed about your child s progress this school year.

  18. What you can expect with Class Information Teachers will explain how students will be evaluated and graded. Teachers will inform you when report cards and progress reports will be sent home. Teachers will describe the amount of homework students can expect as well as the content. Teachers will provide a calendar of upcoming events, such as parent-teacher conferences and communicate regularly. Teachers will provide their planning period, extension number, email and ways to communicate throughout the school year. Please allow 24 hours for a return call. NO teachers will be interrupted during instructional minutes. All appointments will be scheduled.

  19. School and Class Rules Teachers will explain the behavior they expect in their classroom. ELC PBIS rules include: o Be respectful. o Be responsible. o Be safe. o This looks like: follow directions given by the instructor, be on time, be organized, be a self starter, be caring, be kind and be prepared.

  20. School Policies refer to ELC handbook and SMPSB website Explain Be See Teachers will explain how the school addresses academic and behavioral problems. Parents will be familiar with the school's policies regarding tardiness, absence, and discipline. Please see SMPSB website for policy information about: School cancellations for bad weather and other reasons. Emergency procedures. Transportation. School uniforms. Technology Parish Calendar

  21. School Messenger You will have access to the School Messenger app this year. This will be your teacher s main source of communicating with you. Please be mindful of her instructional minutes and our 24 hour rule to answer questions. Teacher response time will be 7:30 3:30 daily. Anything after office hours will be addressed the following day. Teachers will ask parents to fill out a questionnaire about their child. o You will describe areas in which you would like to see your child improve and share their strengths. o You will describe their child's personality, interests, and talents. o You will work directly with the teacher to maximize your child s learning potential this school year. o Parents must keep teacher/school informed with a current phone number for immediate emergency contact.

  22. Website and School Newsletters Please check out our school s website regularly for updated information. Teacher s will send weekly newsletters home in child s take home folders. Office will send home monthly newsletters with important dates.

  23. Every Child will have an opportunity to purchase a school spirit shirt for $15.00. You can purchase one or order one at your meet and greet for first grade or your child s individual testing appointment for PK and K. ALL ELC students pay $5.00 STEM fees (Science Technology Engineering & Math) PTO $5.00 These fees will be collected at your assigned orientation/testing day. Parents will fill out all necessary paperwork with classroom teacher during your assigned time while teacher meets with your child. Spirit Shirts and School Fees
