  1. An Overview of the Role of Economics in the An Overview of the Role of Economics in the Development of Energy Policy Development of Energy Policy Greg Gelles Professor Emeritus of Economics Missouri S&T

  2. Energy Economics Education Energy Economics Education The Development of the S&T Energy Economics Class Developed cooperatively with Dr. Joseph Smith, First Laufer Energy Professor. Amazing growth in the class in the past 11 years. Class visits to solar houses on campus, Missouri ethanol plant, and visits to the campus nuclear reactor.

  3. Economics and Engineering are Synergistic Economics and Engineering are Synergistic The Existence of Synergies between Economics and Engineering. Each discipline adds significant value to the other. An economist with engineering training understands better the technologies that are part of our economic growth and an engineer with economics training understands more fully how to think about value.

  4. Energy Policy Questions Energy Policy Questions Is the Gradual Replacement of Fossil Fuels with Renewables a Good Policy? Does the Existence of Abundant Energy Provide a Way to Fight Off the Destructive Effects of the Second Law of Thermodynamics? Are We Prepared to Invest in the Production of Greater Quantities of Energy from Nuclear?

  5. Energy Policy Questions Energy Policy Questions Given That the Use of Fossil Fuels May Increase Global Temperatures, It Seems Reasonable That We Analyze Both the Costs and Benefits of This Warming and, If Possible, Compare Them to Make Proper Policy Decisions. We Need to Consider Problems of Energy Poverty in Our Decision- Making

  6. Alex Epstein Quote Alex Epstein Quote Earlier in the Symposium We Had an Excellent Presentation by Alex Epstein Who Has Advocated for Increased Use of Fossil Fuels. Here Is a Quote from Mr. Epstein: Fossil fuels haven t taken a naturally safe planet and made it more dangerous but instead have taken a naturally dangerous planet and made it naturally safe.
