  1. *Curriculum Process Delta/Greely School District Presentation to the Board April 2, 2015

  2. *Describes what courses are taught, the grade level, any pre-requisites that are required *Identifies the adopted curriculum materials *Allows for flexibility in that teachers are able to supplement materials as appropriate *Structured to identify appropriate levels at which standards are to be introduced, developed, mastered or reinforced. *Curriculum Guide

  3. *On-going process *6 year cycle *Relies on teachers as the content area experts *Based on teacher, student and community expectations *Curriculum Cycle

  4. *Year 1: Math *Year 2: Science *Year 3: K-12 Language Arts/ Library *Year 4: Vocational Education Fine Arts *Year 5: Social Studies *Year 6: Health, PE, Correspondence/ NHHS *Curriculum Cycle

  5. *Curriculum Content Committee (CCC) reviews and makes recommendations for updates or changes to Curriculum Management Committee (CMC) *CMC forwards recommendations to Superintendent *Superintendent makes recommendations to Board of Education for final approval *Steps in Process

  6. *Generally composed of at least 5 teachers across all grades with knowledge, skill or interest in the particular subject *Charged with reviewing new curriculum materials when deemed necessary *Charged with seeking parent input for major changes prior to making recommendations to CMC *Curriculum Content Committee

  7. *REVIEW includes determination of strengths, weaknesses and areas of need in current curriculum *Determination of which standards are taught in each course *Alignment of curriculum materials to standards *May request that teachers pilot some materials to see how they work in the classroom *Curriculum Content Committee

  8. *Adding a new course or adjusting a current course *Requires a committee review though it may be a site level review rather than a K-12 review *Recommendations to CMC, then Superintendent, then Board *Changes outside the Regular Cycle

  9. *Any one may informally request that approved curriculum be reconsidered by bringing the concern to the site administrator *Site administrator will attempt to resolve concern *If unresolved, a formal written request may be submitted to the Curriculum Director (currently Mr. Burr or I) *Investigation will be conducted which may include interviewing complainant, teachers, and CCC re-evaluation of materials *If changes are recommended they would go through CMC, Superintendent and Board *Curricular Reconsideration
