What is a goal? A goal is your compass it gives you direction. Whether you're aiming for a career in healthcare or becoming the next Tech CEO, goals help you set your path Personal Goal Setting Objectives What's one goal you have right now? Why is this matter to get to a goal? It s a journey to reach a destination The hardest goals are achieved with milestone accomplishments Pavan Lohia
"Dream," "Plan," "Action," "Success" Setting goals keeps you focused and motivated. It's how I managed to juggle medical school, launching PavLyfe, and working in healthcare. When you set goals, you create a roadmap to where you want to go. Without clear goals, it's easy to lose direction, especially when faced with obstacles like heavy workloads, self- doubt, or even financial pressures. Personal Goal Setting Objectives "A goal without a plan is just a wish." Pavan Lohia
Key Steps for Goal Setting 01 02 03 Break down goal-setting into separate steps. Keep each step simple and straightforward. Add extra steps as needed. Ensure that each step is clearly defined and easily understood. Don t just say, I want to go to college, get a job, have this life Have a large goal and create sub steps/goals to achieve the main objective Timeline is important and failsafe options Weisenham Tech Solutions
Short-term goals are like the individual steps in a treatment plan they get you to the outcome. Long-term goals are the overall health improvement the big picture. Step 1: Goal Types Example: Short-term could be completing a medical certification; long-term might be becoming a healthcare leader or specialist. During my journey, my short-term goals included completing individual research projects or gaining certifications, while my long-term goal was to create an impact in healthcare through innovation and leadership. Doing a deep dive into each goal-setting step is a great way to ensure success.
SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. When I set out to complete my research at Mount Sinai, I broke it into specific parts literature review, data collection, analysis. That's what a SMART goal looks like. Step 2: SMART Specific: I wanted to study the impact of PTSD on 9/11 responders. Measurable: I tracked progress by setting weekly milestones for data collection. Achievable: I ensured I had the right support system, including mentors and access to resources. Relevant: The research was crucial in understanding healthcare needs post-trauma. Time-bound: I set a clear deadline for each phase of the project.
Step 3: Achieving Write down your goals when I wrote down my goal to become a doctor, it became a commitment. Create a plan breaking each goal into smaller tasks makes it manageable. Take consistent action even when you don't feel like it. I faced burnout during my studies, but consistent action helped me push through. Reflect and adapt learn from what doesn t work. I had to adjust my approach several times during my research at Mount Sinai, and that flexibility was key.
What is stopping you? Obstacles like procrastination, fear of failure, or lack of support are common. When I started PavLyfe, people doubted whether a doctor could also be an entrepreneur. Obstacles and Failures Financial limitations, time management challenges, and balancing patient care with business were all barriers I faced. But overcoming obstacles makes success even sweeter. "Failing forward" is key every failure teaches you something. It s how I improved my research skills and grew PavLyfe. For instance, I initially struggled with funding for PavLyfe, but instead of giving up, I networked extensively and found partners who believed in the vision. Pavan Lohia
