  2. WRITING PEEC PARAGRAPHS The goal of the PEEC strategy 1. To write effective paragraphs using supportive evidence from the text. 2. To strengthen your ideas with insightful commentary.

  3. P IS FOR POINT P- POINT (Write in RED) What is your point? This is your HOOK and should be a strong, interesting statement.

  4. E IS FOR EVIDENCE EVIDENCE WITH A LINK- (write in green) Find evidence in your text to support your HOOK. Write two or more sentences explaining your evidence. For example, write a sentence using the 4 W s. Then add a sentence that explains how your evidence supports your point. (Do this 2ndbecause you can t make the link without the evidence).

  5. E-EVIDENCE FOR DOCUMENTATION E Evidence Documentation (Write in BLUE) Now you MUST quote your evidence directly. Document the source in parentheses.

  6. C FOR COMMENTARY C Commentary (Write in BLACK) Think about how your point and your evidence and how relate to you, your life, or life in general. Without repeating anything you ve said so far, write a sentence or two relating your point to the real world ie. the overall THEME. (ZOOM OUT!) Finish your paragraph with a sentence that reaffirms your point in your thesis.

  7. NOTE: THE ORDER FOR THE THOUGHT PROCESS BEFORE WRITING IS 1,2,3,4 THE ORDER FOR THE WRITTEN TIER IS 1,3,2,4 1. HOOK (WRITE IN RED) THIS IS YOUR THEMATIC OR THESIS WHAT IS THE POINT YOU ARE MAKING? STATEMENT. 3. INTERPRETATION (WRITE IN BLUE) STATEMENT BY EXPLAINING THE WHO, LINK THE EVIDENCE TO THE THESIS WHAT, WHEN AND WHERE. 2. EVIDENCE WITH CHOOSE THE EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT YOUR DOCUMENTATION POINT AND ENCLOSE IT IN QUOTATION (WRITE IN GREEN) MARKS. DOCUMENT THE SOURCE IN PARENTHESES. (DO THIS 2NDBECAUSE YOU CAN T MAKE THE LINK WITHOUT THE EVIDENCE). 4.RELATE RELATE THE EVIDENCE TO THE OVERALL (WRITE IN BLACK) THEME. APPLY IT TO REAL LIFE.

  8. PEEC EXAMPLE Even though Lyddie is a child, she proves that she can be courageous even though she is not yet an adult. When a bear enters their small cottage, her mother wimpers , but Lyddie ignores how scared she is when she jumps into action by commanding everyone to get to safety up the ladder. Lyddie s orders are followed by her siblings and even Mama. Bravery knows no age and can be found in the young and old. This last summer, a child the age of 5 watched his mother suddenly go into convulsions. Instead of crying or feeling helpless, this child acted like a mature, brave adult and immediately called 911 resulting in his mother being saved. Lyddie proved that courage can be found in the young.
