  1. Teacher slide Objectives: To understand the importance of correctly ordering information in a personal statement. You need: Student worksheet Example personal statement A3 paper, glue sticks/Sellotape The recommended time for this resource is 45 mins

  2. Jumbled Personal Statements

  3. Instructions In small groups, you will receive an example personal statement which has been cut into parts. Read the sections and put them in the correct order, to create a full personal statement.

  4. Instructions When you are happy with the order of your personal statement, justify why you have place each section in that position. Explain your reasoning on paper. See an example below. This section should come at the beginning because This section explains and should therefore following the previous section because

  5. Instructions When each group has included their reasoning on their work, move around the room and look at other group s work. Gather in your group and discuss: -What is the same/different compared to your work? -Would you change the order of your personal statement based on what you have observed? - Is there only one correct order? Is there flexibility in the correct order?

  6. Answers Read the correct order of the personal statement, as well as the student s explanation of their personal statement. Compare this to your order and discuss any discrepancies.

  7. Bonus task! Use the Personal Statement tool to write drafts of your personal statement in sections. Each section is also divided into sub-sections with useful tips and advice.
