HOW DO WE ORGANIZE DIALOGUE? We: Unite different shades of green 13 organisations, 13 different identities Can use these different identities strategically Eg: Greenpeace protest in front of parliament, Natuur & Milieu negotiates with farmers, both aiming at nitrogen emission reduction Work together on strategy, not on content
WHAT MAKES THIS EFFECTIVE? Different identities strengthen joint ambitions Last year in on week a protest at Schiphol airport CO2 emissions of private jets, and a high level meeting with the minister responsible for aviation took place But each NGO has own priorities, own voice, own ambitions. This means: we don t have te search for the lowest common denominator Different coalitions on a wide range of subjects (from aviation to biodiversity protection). Different levels of cooperation Cooperation ranging from keeping each other informed to speaking with one voice What works against us? Kissinger's question Who do i call if i want to call Europe? also applies for Green11. Sometimes confusing for policy makers that there is not one green voice
LESSONS FOR EFFECTIVENESS Stick to communication instruments that suit you best Accept the difference between content and strategy: respect opinions of your supporters, even if they do not for 100% agree with you Keep your friends close Don t surprise each other Level of success depends on high trust and close cooperation behind the scenes .
