What does an SSLC Chair & Secretary do before an SSLC?
Before an SSLC Meeting Between Chair & Secretary Give Course Reps time to add to the agenda Write the agenda Prepare timings for the agenda Send out agenda & papers to Reps, Staff Attendees, and SU With Academic Convenor Discuss agenda (including items from DEC?) Discuss which staff members need to be in attendance Organise timing Book rooms
What makes a good SSLC Chair & Secretary?
What Makes a Good Chair Timekeeping Focusing on issues that can be changed in an SSLC Good listener Being assertive (but not domineering) Giving the opportunity for everyone to be heard Lead by example Don t talk too much Summarise, particularly if there are two or three different views Highlight if the topic is drifting Ask for advice if needed Stop private discussions as soon as they start Remind people of meeting rules Uphold University & SU Values
During an SSLC Meeting Welcome everyone and introduce anyone new. Reminder of meeting rules (departmental feedback only, etc.) Announce apologies for minutes Introduce each item Conclude items clearly and record these decisions Give everyone the chance to present their views. Try to reach a consensus Be clear on actions and responsibilities Finish on time and tank everyone for attending
