  2. Objectives I will learn different techniques to deal with defiant and difficult students. I will begin searching different websites to assist with classroom management practices and strategies.

  3. Group Norms Be an active participant! Be a respectful listener/speaker Limit Side Conversations Be present Have Fun!

  4. Whip Around Please write your name on a piece of paper so that everyone can see who you are Complete this sentence frame for a brief introduction! My name is ______________ and I teach ______________ at _______________ School.

  5. Table Talk How do you respond to students that break a rule/procedure with respect to your classroom management plan? At your tables, everyone share 1 strategy that you use and place it on a post- it. Be prepared to share your response at each table! After sharing with the group, please place the strategy on the chart paper!

  6. What is the best way to inform students of a consequence? Tell them why Keep your thoughts, opinions, and comments to yourself! Do not escort to time-out Be more like a referee, less like a judge!!! Safeguard your influence Move on! Self-discovery follow the plan, allow them to come to terms that THEY ALONE broke the contract/plan!

  7. Why you should take your time responding to misbehavior It allows you to be the witness. It deescalates the behavior. It saves learning time. It allows for introspection. It keeps you cool. Use watchful eyes!

  8. Table talk Is there any reason why you should not reward students for good behavior? What is the ultimate reward in any classroom? Discuss with your table and be prepared to share your responses!

Now ***Give them a time frame to think about their choice for refusing and to give them a moment to reconsider before moving on to your classroom management plan. ***This way, the choice belongs to the student! Teacher should go back to what he/she is doing!
