  6. SCIENCE Steps for Answering Science Standard-Based Questions: Read the question carefully. Review all answer choices. Annotatethe question for clarity. Analyzeany supporting information (charts, data, images, etc.). Eliminate two incorrect answersby crossing them out. Select the best answer based on evidence and explain your reasoning. Double-check your answers and reasoning, erasing any mistakes completely.

  9. Why is homework important? Homework affects achievement in school. Homework teaches your children responsibility. Homework is the key link between home and school. Your children s success is in your hands.

  10. Homework Without Tears Checklist: Have you: Set up a proper study area in your home? Establish Daily Homework Time Take steps to encourage your children to do their homework independently Consistently praise your children s efforts Use additional incentives if necessary Communicate so that your children really listen Take a firm stand Contact your child s teacher if necessary

  11. Homework must be done on time! Let your children know what your expectations are for homework You may need to have all of your children s scheduled activities written down on a daily schedule. Find out from your child s teacher how much time should be spent on doing homework each day. Determine the best time period each day to be set aside for Daily Homework Time. Check your child s agenda, and/or classroom website daily

  12. Motivate your children to do their best work! Consistently praise your children s efforts. Tell your children specifically what you like about what they are doing or what they have done. Remember that a hug or a pat on the shoulder will increase the impact of your message.

  13. Your partner at school, the Teacher Contact the teacher if your child cannot do the homework assignments. Contact the teacher if your child does not bring home assigned work. Contact the teacher if your child does not finish homework assignments. Contact the teacher if your child does a poor job on homework assignments or exhibits poor work habits.
