EFFECTIVE WRITING COMMUNICATION To communicate effectively you will need to get your point across and relay information clearly. The reader will understand exactly what you mean. Following are some tips for effective writing and some common errors. Effective writing allows the reader to thoroughly understand everything you are saying. This is not always easy to do. TIPS: 1. Organize and argue. 2. Be concise. 4. Write with force 5. Write for a reader. 6. Revise and rewrite. 7. Avoid common errors. 3. Write what you mean.
THREE PARTS OF AN ESSAY Introductory Paragraphs is: o An attention -grabbing sentence o Informative ( informational) o Statement which makes a claim or states a view that you support or build upon Body Paragraphs is: o Comes between the introduction and the conclusion. In a five -paragraph essay there 3 body paragraphs. While in longer essays there could be 5 or even 10. Conclusion is: o It wraps up your essay; it demonstrates (shows) the reader that you accomplished what you set out to do; it shows how you have improved your introduction; it provides the reader with a sense of closure on the topic.

ARGUMENTATIVE WRITING What makes a good argument? Learning Tip: o As our students explore topics like the ways in which schools handle bullying and or whether not the pledge of allegiance should be required in schools, they ll have the chance to see how sources may be and how those sources can be constructed to support a particular - side of argument. Whether students choose to argue for or against a given topic, you can be sure they ll learn about the components of an excellent argument either way!
ARGUMENTATIVE PROMPTS Each essay prompt needs to have an introduction , body and conclusion paragraphs. Each essay needs to be a full 2 pages Make sure you revise and check your grammar and punctuation before turning in your essays. Essay 1 o Do people have a right in America to have free internet access? Essay 2 o Do violent video games make people more likely to be violent in real life? Essay 3 o Do athletes, celebrities, and CEO s deserve to make more money than the average person?
PERSUASIVE WRITING Is a type of writing in which someone tries to get the reader to agree with their opinions or ideas. State an Opinion Specificity (Facts) A persuasive essay isn't a place to be vague (short). You must state all the arguments and facts clearly. Give real examples. Support Everything Find as much evidence as you can and put it in your essay. You can't just throw in a statement and expect people to believe your words without any supporting facts. People love to question everything, so don't give them a chance to.
