  1. IPC Chronic Level 1 Training Session 14 Function 2: Step 2 Document Evidence in Repository IPC Food Security Working Group IPC Global Partners

  2. Importance of Step 2 Documenting Evidence: Helps to organize wide ranging data from multiple sources for ease of access and reference Specifies sources and dates of evidence to assist in the evaluation of reliability and relevance Ensures greater transparency and evidence- based process 2

  3. The Tool for Step 2 (Step 2 of Analysis Worksheet) The repository is, quite simply, a place to file and keep track of pieces of evidence used in IPC. 3

  4. Step 2 How to add evidence Compile and document relevant data/evidence, noting the source and date of each piece of evidence. The evidence can be tables, graphs, text and charts in ISS evidence has to be text, an image or a link The order of the evidence is not important, and the associated Document Code is arbitrary (but sequential). The Document Code will be used to make a cross reference to the Evidence Repository in Step 4 (Analysis). When evidence is referenced in Step 4, the Documentation Code (DC) will be asked for together with the Reliability Score of the evidence.

  5. Insert Source and Date New Entry: Add one new entry for each new source of evidence Source: Agency or group providing the data Date: Date of report/ data release Technical Note: Note sample validity, date of data collection and other relevant notes 5

  6. Inserting more evidence to an existing source Title: Name of piece of evidence Type: Choose between image, text or link Evidence: Insert raw evidence if possible Start Date: Insert the date of start of data collection End Date: Insert the date of end of data collection Technical Note: Add a brief note explaining the evidence and relating it to the IPC Chronic Ref. Table Forward Link Evidence: Choose to which outcome element or contributing factor and/or specific indicator the piece of evidence informs 6

  7. Forward linking evidence Forward linking facilitates finding of evidence in Step 4 for different sections/ indicators When adding new evidence in Step 4, clicking on Documentation Code opens a list of all evidence, with forward linked evidence for the element/indicator in question on top 7

  8. Note Data Gaps and Minimum Requirements Note any major data gaps Note if minimum Evidence Level category (Acceptable) was achieved based on guidance (IPC Manual) 8

  9. Good Practice for Step 2 A data mapping tool (Data Mapping Matrix) can assist in the collection of evidence A good practice is to complete (at least partially) Step 2 prior to the analysis workshop Evidence may be added and/or deleted during the analysis workshop 9

  10. Review the Evidence Repository in ISS Exercise 14.1 Task: With your group... 1. Familiarize yourself with the raw evidence included in the Tambai data repository in ISS (http://isstst.ipcinfo.org/zz). Add evidence sources and evidence as per workbook Discuss any observations and challenges in plenary OR Task: With your group 1. Add evidence sources and individual pieces of evidence in Step 2 for your area in the country portal (http://isstst.ipcinfo.org/(two letter code for your country) 2. Discuss any observations and challenges in plenary 2. 3. 10

  11. Wrap Up Do you feel you can .? Explain the importance of documenting evidence Utilize the Analysis Worksheet in ISS to document evidence in IPC Analysis Explain the use of Documentation Codes (DC) to link IPC evidence to the analysis conducted with the worksheet 11
