  2. December 2024 doc.: IEEE 802.11-24/2089r0 Introduction According to SFD [1], TGbn has agreed to define a non-primary channel access (NPCA) mode that enables a STA to access the secondary channel while the primary channel is known to be busy due to OBSS traffic or other TBD conditions. A BSS shall only have a single NPCA primary channel In this proposal, we discuss how to select NPCA primary channel (PCH) in NPCA operation Submission Slide 2 Yuxin Lu, TCL Industries

  3. December 2024 doc.: IEEE 802.11-24/2089r0 Motivation In current baseline, there is no explicit in-BSS interactive procedure for selecting PCH [2], the location of PCH is predetermined and indicated by the AP Such as via some algorithms or pre-configured, using QLoad report, selecting the least occupied channel considering other APs However, while introducing NPCA technique, things become different Non-AP STAs may have limited capability in switching between channels/bands, switching to a sub-band too far away from PCH may take too long, resulting in low efficiency when performing NPCA NPCA PCH concerns a set of non-AP STAs that support NPCA, not the entire BSS; in certain scenarios, NPCA PCH only concerns non-AP STAs that have the same OBSS interference as AP [3] For non-AP STAs, always enabling NPCA may not be the best option [4], considering statistics of channel occupancy, overhead from switching back and forth, it may choose to enable or disable depending on some conditions, such as the frequency location of NPCA PCH, its switching capability, traffic status etc Other interference, coexistence events on particular channels for non-AP STAs Submission Slide 3 Yuxin Lu, TCL Industries

  4. December 2024 doc.: IEEE 802.11-24/2089r0 Proposed Solution Part I As such, it would be more efficient if non-AP STAs provide their preference in determining the frequency location of NPCA PCH, to assist AP s decision Specifically, NPCA-supporting non-AP STAs indicate information for selecting NPCA PCH (solicited/unsolicited), include OBSS ID list, OBSS PCH list NPCA Supported Channel list, Channel Utilization/Load Info, Channel Unavailable Info Preferred NPCA PCH Channel list / Not Preferred NPCA PCH Channel list Two switch delays, one for switch within operating BW, the other for switch beyond operating BW AP Non-AP Request info Respond with whether to accept Information for selecting NPCA PCH Choose NPCA PCH NPCA PCH location, access mode etc NPCA OMI Submission Slide 4 Yuxin Lu, TCL Industries

  5. December 2024 doc.: IEEE 802.11-24/2089r0 Proposed Solution Part II Besides, AP may request these non-AP STAs to perform channel measurement and report the above info, such request may include AP Preferred NPCA Channels (Measurement Applied Channel list & Measurement Channel Width) Different considerations: considering when P20 is busy, it is more likely that S160 or S80 or S40 is idle (Applied Channel) ; considering P160 or P80 or P40 (Applied Channel) is more likely to be within operating BW of non-AP STA for efficient switching Measurement Start Time & Measurement Duration Non-AP STAs may respond with whether to accept this request Decline request: If the requested measurement is beyond the capability of the STA, may interfere with its normal transmission etc Accept request: response may include Measurement Update Indication TSF, Actual Measurement Start Time, Actual Measurement Duration AP Non-AP Request info Respond with whether to accept Information for selecting NPCA PCH Choose NPCA PCH NPCA PCH location, access mode etc NPCA OMI Submission Slide 5 Yuxin Lu, TCL Industries

  6. December 2024 doc.: IEEE 802.11-24/2089r0 Proposed Solution Part III Based on the above, AP determines NPCA PCH and indicate Frequency location of NPCA PCH Access mode: Trigger-only mode or contention-enable mode NPCA Parameter NPCA Supported BW, NPCA Supported MCS And NSS, Switch Delay (from PCH to the determined NPCA PCH), EDCA method/ EDCA parameter may also include NPCA Parameter for other non-Tx BSSIDs AP Non-AP Request info Respond with whether to accept Information for selecting NPCA PCH Choose NPCA PCH NPCA OMI: After receiving frequency location of NPCA PCH from AP, non-AP STAs that support NPCA indicate whether to enable or disable NPCA NPCA Mode (enable/disable), NPCA Parameter Update (Control), NPCA Parameter, NPCA Link Bitmap for MLD NPCA PCH location, access mode etc NPCA OMI Submission Slide 6 Yuxin Lu, TCL Industries

  7. December 2024 doc.: IEEE 802.11-24/2089r0 Proposed Solution Part IV Choosing NPCA PCH AP creates a list of candidate channels, considering available operating channels, regulation, radar detection, AP s own channel measurement etc AP creates an array for each candidate channel that allows the recording of non- AP STAs indicated information, consisting of OBSS count, OBSS PCH count, recommendation count, (average) channels load, maximum channels load, channel quality etc According to received non-AP STAs indicated information, update this array AP selects one NPCA PCH from those candidate channels, according to below metric: With the least OBSS count or OBSS PCH count, or With the most recommendation count, or With the least (average) channels load or least maximum channels load, or With the best channel quality If there are multiple channels that satisfy one metric, select one channel randomly or with the highest score considering combination of metrics AP Non-AP Request info Respond with whether to accept Information for selecting NPCA PCH Choose NPCA PCH NPCA PCH location, access mode etc NPCA OMI Submission Slide 7 Yuxin Lu, TCL Industries

  8. December 2024 doc.: IEEE 802.11-24/2089r0 Summary In this contribution, we discussed how to select NPCA PCH efficiently NPCA-supporting non-AP STAs indicate their preference in selecting NPCA PCH and help with channel measurement NPCA-supporting non-AP STAs indicate whether to enable or disable NPCA depending on certain conditions Submission Slide 8 Yuxin Lu, TCL Industries

For example, the preference may include NPCA Supported Channel list, Preferred NPCA PCH Channel list / Not Preferred NPCA PCH Channel list Whether to support solicited/unsolicited indication is TBD Submission Slide 9 Yuxin Lu, TCL Industries

  10. December 2024 doc.: IEEE 802.11-24/2089r0 Straw Poll 2 Do you agree in 11bn that NPCA-supporting non-AP STAs may indicate local channel information for selecting NPCA PCH?
