  11. INTRO TO ENGINEERING Standard Description Rigor Repetitions are evident in the student s focused notes. Students will be able to correctly apply unit conversions to various values. Example Prerequisite Skills Common Assessment When Taught? Extension Standards Students will be able to apply dimensional analysis to solve problems relating to density and other properties of solids. Students will need to differentiate between SI and US Customary units, and be able to choose appropriate conversion factors. B5.5 Students will solve problems by using appropriate units applied in engineering systems. Quiz on Conversions October

Student will create a digital portfolio with all steps of the design process thoroughly documented. Example Prerequisite Skills Common Assessment When Taught? Extension Standards Students must be able to use Google docs to create a written document, including knowing how to insert and edit images and write a summary. Students will be able to create a digital portfolio for their toy train design, including all appropriate sections. B11.1 Students will develop a digital portfolio representative of their work. Completed online digital portfolio for their puzzle cube design project. December/A pril/May

Students will be able to calculate area, surface area and volume of various geometric and composite shapes. Prerequisite Skills Common Assessment When Taught? Extension Standards Example Rigor Students must be able to differentiate between various shapes and solids, including selecting the appropriate formula and recognizing the required variable to be substituted in. B6.4 Students will be able to translate word problems into mathematical statements. Students will be able to interpret the physical properties of solids given in the CAD model analysis. When Taught? 4thweek of semester 1 Extension Standards This leads to a more formal understanding of the face leading to the fictional portrait drawing using a grid. Example Rigor A 1 page written summary of an article students read on the artist Chuck Close (post-Vietnam era).

Extension Standards Completed notes and essay based on a scoring rubric with emphasis on response for the essay question explaining the relevance of art in the careers in the modern world. Extension Standards Students will understand the basic components of a computer s operating system, and how each part functions. Students will construct a diagram that labels the computer s components, along with a description of how each component works. Students who have mastered this standard will assist their fellow classmates who are having difficulties with particular concepts. Students will need to know proper note taking techniques, research skills, and collaborate with their peers. Students mastery will be assessed via a labeled computer diagram, and an explanation of each parts functionality. August

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Standard Description Rigor Students will understand the historical perspective of the World Wide Web, advantages/disadv antages of ecommerce, how browsers and servers function, along with other basic components of webpages and websites. Example Prerequisite Skills Common Assessment When Taught? Extension Standards Students will build a PowerPoint using their research data to outline the important events which have help sculpt the Web, along with other pertinent topics. Students will present their PowerPoint via oral presentation that includes all of the necessary information regarding the Students will need to know how to use PowerPoint as well as how to properly use Web based search engines to access information. Students who have mastered this standard will assist their fellow classmates who are having difficulties with particular concepts. September

  25. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Standard Description Rigor Example Prerequisite Skills Common Assessment When Taught? Extension Standards Students will need to understand the standard vocabulary associated with web design, and proper note taking techniques. Students will understand the basic components of designing websites including: Color schemes, backgrounds, text, images, navigation, and custom animation. Students will complete their webpage template using the Dreamweaver software, incorporating all of the components of basic web design. Students will build a webpage template that includes all of the necessary formatting components. Students who have mastered this standard will assist their fellow classmates who are having difficulties with particular concepts. October
