  1. Electronics & DAQ WG 2/8/2024 Agenda Announcements Common FMC Pinout for ppRDO and ASIC Test Boards? - Tonko Discussion of TDR Plan and Status 2/8/2024 Electronics & DAQ WG 1

  2. Announcements DAQ Documents We use sharepoint, and emailed links get translated according to the sender s account information, so we have had lots of trouble sending links to people Go to DAQ WIKI ( https://wiki.bnl.gov/EPIC/index.php?title=DAQ ) Select Talks and Slide Directory and select the appropriate links New results in for backgrounds / DIS New results have arrived in the form of hits / channel Synchrotron Radiation results haven t (to my knowledge) been presented yet but will be next week Next steps are: Converting to rates Verifying that channels offline are channels for E&DAQ Extending to full set of features we care about (data volume, channel hit rates, rates per FEB, rates per RDO etc ) Calculations to be presented at Background mtg on 2/27/24 Far forward/backward preliminary design review 2/12/24 Many meetings with DSC s Updated understanding & rates for far backward detectors & updated rates for far forward See ePIC Scale and Technology Summary in DAQ sharepoint 2/8/2024 Electronics & DAQ WG 2

  3. Announcements (continued (ff/fb updates) Local Hadron Polarimeter not in DAQ stream Luminosity Monitors include three parts: These three detectors protected by sweeper magnet / converter / magnet combination AC-LGAD Pair spectrometer tracker (high rates! ~45Gb/sec -> DAQ ~1.5Gb/sec to tape) Pair spectrometer calorimeter (high rates! ~20Gb/sec -> DAQ ~6Gb/sec to tape) Direct photon calorimeter magnets/converter has no effect! (very high rates! 150Gb/sec -> 2Gb/sec to tape. 2 detectors, 100 channels, only one runs at a time, but both always connected and switchable via slow controls Pure streaming but 100 channels) 200MHz streaming rate. -- Discuss eg 250MHz flash from jlab Write out sum of energy deposit / half bunch crossing Store by channel histograms each ~1sec 2/8/2024 Electronics & DAQ WG 3

  4. Announcements (continued (ff/fb updates) 2 stations of Low Q2 taggers Timepix4 Special RDO with ~20 Output fibers High Rates (150Gb/sec per station -> DAQ, 10Gb/sec per station -> tape) Data reduction via software trigger Highest channel rate an issue (40kHz predicted rate, but 8kHZ for timepix4 with caveat that actual rate may be average channel rate per timepix, and this would fit due to rate variations) Goal of low Q group is to run all the time, but prescaling is a possibility 2/8/2024 Electronics & DAQ WG 4

  5. Announcements (continued (ff/fb updates) Far Forward Detectors have minor changes at least to DAQ understanding B0 uses AC-LGAD with low channel crystal calorimeter RP and OFFM still use AC-LGAD pixel ZDC has 5 components, but 3 are not in baseline, predicted to be later in-kind contribution from Japan Rates have been estimated using the new background group data (except for synchrotron radiation) Numbers are significantly larger than original calculations, but all together around 5Gb/sec 2/8/2024 Electronics & DAQ WG 5

  6. Announcements Feb 19th, TIC meeting regarding TDR plans ~May, Electronics and DAQ 2nd preliminary design review Follow up to review from August 2022 Space requirements at BNL (Electronics and DAQ, Not including detector specific allocations) 3 labs 2 scenarios for DAQ room / WAH Electronics and DAQ needs All local computing As many DAQ computers as possible offloaded to computing center Cooperation with the polarimeter group was discussed in the project meeting, tbd. The polarimeters will not be read out through ePIC DAQ, but may benefit from some of our technology, or help Other announcements? 2/8/2024 Electronics & DAQ WG 6

  7. Discussion of TDR Plans and Status (Activities) Timing Measurements? Status? We have the jitter, do we have phase stability over time/power cycles? Can we make decision regarding need for dedicated fiber? Unification of RDO / FEB development? 1 step is developing unified documentation (in particular requirements and protocol specification) Get developers in same room or at least same zoom? Make sure each version HAS developers! Radiation Tests for ASIC/FEB/RDO? Are we in position for any beam tests? Are we in position to bootstrap from known component tests Irakli has some info from Incom regarding firefly etc, but can we get answers regarding sharing of info? (Dave?) DC/DC converters, (or other similar generally needed problematic components?) Other measurements designs needed at this stage? 2/8/2024 Electronics & DAQ WG 7

  8. Discussion of TDR Plans and Status (Docs Needed) Requirements Documents Project level requirements documents exist Need to extend these to the component level This has been started in a series of overleaf documents RDO Requirements GTU Requirements* Echelon 0 Compute Requirements* Protocol Requirements* Specification Documents Detailed description of how we meet the requirements for each component Do we have these for sub projects with activity (Tonko, Tim, Gerard, Pietro, William, Jo?) What is the list of components? RDO, GTU, DAM*, Echelon 0 compute farm, Do we have answer for is direct fiber required for High Timing Resolution Detectors? If not we need requirements / specification for: High Resolution Timing Fiber Distributer How do we handle the ASICS? eRD109 reports adapted? By who? FEBs (1 document? 1 document / Detector group? Include in detector groups TDR section? 2/8/2024 Electronics & DAQ WG 8

  9. Discussion of TDR Plans and Status (Docs Needed) What is the list of components? RDO, GTU, DAM*, DAQ compute farm, Do we have answer for is direct fiber required for High Timing Resolution Detectors? If not we need requirements / specification for: High Resolution Timing Fiber Distributer How do we handle the ASICS? eRD109 reports adapted? By who? FEBs 1 document? 1 document / Detector group? Include in detector groups TDR section? Slow Controls Project organization not finalized, needs to be Slow control presence in TDR? 2/8/2024 Electronics & DAQ WG 9

  10. Discussion of TDR Plans and Status (Computing) TIER-0 Computing 108 computers to house ~100 FELIX boards 48 computers to handle time frame building 45 computers to handle Analysis / HLT { Move to SDCC ?} What is purpose of these computers? Detector based debugging, calibrations, QA, logging outside of SRO framework? Consider these part of TIER-1? Absorb these into infrastructure servers (WEB server, DB servers, Development servers) workers for performing real time tasks needed for time frame building computers? 4 file servers (Need about ~400-800 disks to maintain read/write capability at 100-200Gb/sec) TIER-1 Computing SDCC/JLAB Computing TDR tasks for local computing Define computing flow Define specific tasks for each category of computer and estimate requirements 2/8/2024 Electronics & DAQ WG 10

  11. Discussion of TDR Plans and Status (Fiber/Integration) To what extent, if any do we discuss these issues in the Electronics/DAQ part of the TDR Powering FEBs / RDOs Fiber connections to on-detector RDOs (e.g. Jin s talk) Installation plans for FEBs/RDOs 2/8/2024 Electronics & DAQ WG 11
