  2. AGENDA 2 Why have MEDDRUN and CHEMPACK? What is MEDDRUN and CHEMPACK? How are they requested? How are they deployed? Q&A

  3. WHY HAVE MEDDRUN AND CHEMPACK 3 For certain mass casualty or specific incidents, critical emergency pharmaceuticals and other vital medical supplies may be compromised or non-existent in hospitals. Particularly true for terrorist incidents with chemical weapons For some incidents, stockpiles are developed and geographically located in Michigan for relatively quick access.

  4. MICHIGAN EMERGENCY DRUG DELIVERY AND RESPONSE UTILIZATION NETWORK (MEDDRUN) 4 Standardized caches of medications and supplies to treat approximately 50 casualties. Located with rotary air and select ground Emergency Medical Services. Can be rapidly delivered to hospitals or scene of incident, ideally within one hour of request. Intended to bridge gap between local, state and more extensive SNS, federal medical re- supply.

  5. 5 MEDDRUN Air and Ground EMS Agencies Coverage Areas R2N has one located in Oakland County

  6. MEDDRUN CONTENTS 6 Triage tape N95 respirators Gloves Syringes and alcohol wipes NA antidotes Cyanide antidotes Doxycycline Respiratory support albuterol inhalers, oxygen manifolds, disposable ventilators

  7. CHEMPACK 7 Established by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Forward sustainable Nerve Agent (NA) antidotes Mostly for large scale incidents where quick response is needed for NA Two types EMS Container mostly for on scene some antidotes packaged in single use autoinjectors Treat 454 NA casualties Hospital Container More multi use vials Treat 1,000 NA casualties

  8. CHEMPACK IN R2N 8 R2N and R2S have CHEMPACK caches in some hospitals and an EMS agency strategically located throughout the regions. Locations not normally disclosed due to security reasons. Each site maintains contents and works with CDC on security and swap-out protocols, coordinated through the State and R2S or R2N

  9. CHEMPACK CONTENTS 9 NA antidotes Atropine sulfate Pralidoxime Atropen Diazepam Sterile water for injection

  10. HOW ARE THEY REQUESTED? 10 Need identified Call to communications agency Deployment starts, then Verification and CHECC contact Continue deployment or call back

  11. REQUESTING AGENCY RESPONSIBILITIES 11 Must be a recognized hospital, health department, MCA, emergency management, or EMS agency Have a specific contact person Can be pre-deployed for events following defined procedures
