Incident Command Activation The Incident Command is activated when there is: Any event that will stress normal hospital functions A mass casualty incident, Internal or External Significant loss of utilities due to damage or equipment failure Structural damage to hospital buildings that affect patient care activities Hazardous materials (chemical spill) exposure requiring the activation of the Hazardous Material Emergency Response Plan

  5. Know where to get emergency response guidelines Emergency Procedures flip charts are located in all units of the hospital. The emergency operations plan and response can be located in Policy Tech.

  6. Emergency Drills Emergency plans are tested during planned drills, typically twice a year. This allows staff to practice and test the hospital and departments written procedures. HAZ. COM
