  1. EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

  2. EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PLAN -HAVE ONE!! -DON T WAIT UNTIL THE WEEK OR DAY BFORE YOU NEED IT. -HAVE ONE SET IN PLACE NOW.

  3. WHAT TO HAVE IN YOUR PLAN - EMERGENCY CONTACT NUMBERS -POLICE (9-1-1 IF AN EMERGENCY, OTHERWISE 609-494-3322). - FIRE, EMS-DISPATCHED THROUGH 9-1-1 -NEIGHBOR/RELATIVE NUMBERS

  4. SETTING UP YOUR PLAN -Have a place to go -relative, friend, community center -this should be set up well in advance so in case you have to leave you re all set to go. -if any of your options are not available, have a backup.

  5. THINGS TO THINK ABOUT WHEN MAKING YOUR PLAN -PETS -is the person or place you have set up accept/is ok with you bringing a pet? -if not, you need to make other arrangements, (boarding facility, other friends/family, animal shelter) -food/medication for your pets. -anything else they might require.

  6. Things consider when making your plan, cont -Essential Provisions -food (non-perishable items if not evacuating),water (should have a 5 day supply), -medications- make sure your prescriptions are filled and maybe some extra. -keep a copy of your list of medications. -Money- have cash on hand (banks not open, ATM not able to be stocked, power outage) -First Aid Kit- cream, peroxide, iodine, wipes, mask.

  7. Things to consider when making your plan, contd -Fresh batteries. -Multiple flashlights -Candles -Heater -Cell phone along with a charger (put emergency contacts in phone). -Any other items that you think might be necessary for you/your family to have.

  8. Different types of storms -Floods -what we deal with mostly. -more and more flooding in different areas around the Island. -Nor easters (low pressure systems) causes us the worst flooding. -Sandy -have valuables put up and out reach of water. -move cars to higher ground.

  9. Hurricanes -season starts June 1 and ends Nov 30 -peak is in mid-September -start as sandstorms in African desert -move west over the Atlantic where they feed off warm water and moisture. -continue west and are guided by weather patterns, water and other variables.

  10. Different types of Storms, contd -Winter Storms/Coastal Storms -Jan 28-29, 2022 -usually low pressure systems can produce large amounts of moisture equating to rain or snow.

Different Types of Storms, contd -Tornadoes -rotating funnel shaped cloud -retreat to a safe room with no windows or lowest level basement of a building. -cover head and neck area -put furniture on top of you -don t try and outrun in a vehicle. -pay attention to weather reports. -can get updates/warnings through NIXLE (info on signing up at the end).

  12. Get/Stay Informed -NIXLE -text/email messages with alerts from Towns that you signed up for (you can sign up for multiple towns and receive emergency alerts from those towns). **lbtpd.org click on the NIXLE sign at bottom click sign up on top of page.
