Employee of the Semester Fall 2021
Purpose: We acknowledge and celebrate the successes of our employees. The Employee of the Semester Award is recognition of outstanding performance by Valdosta State University classified staff members who have contributed to the mission and goals of the university. These employees exemplify the values of Valdosta State University. Objective: The objective of this program is to create positive role models and to identify noteworthy accomplishments of valuable employees who through their hard work and dedication have positively impacted the Valdosta State University community. Eligibility: All VSU full-time classified staff employees, excluding COSA members, are eligible to be nominated for employee of the semester. The nominated employee must have satisfactory or above satisfactory performance on performance appraisals and no outstanding disciplinary actions. Must be a VSU employee.
3rd Place Winner Darius Anthony: Darius is everything student . As such he goes above and beyond when advocating for our students and thrives to provide the best experience for all of them. He is committed to faculty and staff collaboration. He was labeled as the problem solver and mediator for the department. He has brought in over 100 employers to provide employment opportunities for students. He is the thread that binds employee to employee, student to employee and employee to student and the conduit used to facilitate ongoing collaborations with other departments and campus stakeholders. Darius is always developing new innovative ideas to increase student, faculty, and employer engagement. He demonstrate innovative ideas through consistent improvement of the quality of events. Darius also serves on committees within the Division of Student Affairs encouraging collaboration to engage and retain our students. Putting students first is his middle name.
2nd Place Winner Jenny White: Jenny is conscientious and professional. She works hard, stays late, and works outside of standard office hours, not by a mandate, but through a sincere desire to complete the work needed. Jenny always delivers outstanding performance, working with faculty and staff. She works with integrity within the office, and no doubt outside it as well. She does identify areas to improve and works with others to execute a solution, whether its her idea, or colleague in the department. She is instrumental in moving things forward. She collaborates with departments in making decisions and helps them accomplish their strategic goals. She cooperates well with all and works diligently to get work done in a timely manner. Jenny's efforts in collaborating with other university departments, such as the Music Department, helps them succeed in achieving their strategic goals. Jenny is able to balance the responsibility of multiple projects and requests while making all feel comfortable, understood, and secure that they are receiving quality individualized support. She is always willing to go the extra mile to provide exceptional service for VSU.
Employee of the Semester- Heidi Cox Heidi consistently puts others first. She leads the effort for Ethics Week, in addition to her role as Director of Internal Audit. Heidi takes pride in serving VSU and does so in a genuine and friendly way. She is recognized as a leader that rolls up her sleeves along side of the team to get the work done. Her ability to set actionable goals, follow up, and follow through, are key to her success! She consistently sees situations as opportunities rather than problems and remains flexible when things do not go as planned. She is open minded and eagerly accepts other's contributions. She fosters creative collaboration, promotes cooperation, and encourages participation. Heidi is creative with ideas/activities and lives out the shared values of integrity, excellence, accountability and respect among our campus community. In regard to Ethics Week, no idea was off limits or not worthy of consideration. Her leadership was impressive. Moreover, she recognized and appreciated the diversity and strengths that other departments brought to the table. She made it look easy even though it was a lot of collaboration, effort, and details. She remains a cheer leader for VSU and a fan of faculty, staff and students.
